Prayers please for my Grandson

Friends, I am asking prayers for the 12 year-old son of a dear friend. Cooper is one of her three sons, all of whom are like my grandsons. Cooper is in Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, in ICU. He was diagnosed earlier this week with Influenza B. After 6 days he was continuing to run a high fever and then developed a rash all over. They took him to be seen again and they said it was scarlet fever...and they sent him home. Last night they took him by ambulance back to CMH as his legs were turning purple. He obviously has an infection somewhere, but they can’t figure it out. Please pray for wisdom for the doctors and healing for Cooper. Also, for strength for his mom, Holly, as she is at her wit’s end seeing her oldest like this. She has two toddlers at home with their dad, who recently lost his job, so there is a lot on her plate and mind at this point.

Nonupdates. He had some blood cultures done on Friday that should be back tonight. In the meantime, they are running all sorts of tests.

Praying for Cooper, for his family and for his medical team. May they find the answers and get him on the road to recovery.

Haven't been posting much as I have had bronchitis, which caused me to cancel my normally scheduled trip to Branson last weekend. Just heard this news on Facebook. Prayers going up from Lenexa, Kansas. Children's Mercy Hospital here in the KC area is definitely one of the finest hospitals in the country with a remarkable staff.

Update

For those who have been asking for an update on Cooper: they now have him scheduled for an MRI on his knee, which has been increasingly swollen and sore since his dance competition last weekend. It has been determined that he has septicemia (a bacterial infection) in his blood. The issue now is finding where it originated. This is the best place to begin. Should have results on the MRI this evening. Please pray that we get answers so he can get well soon!

The Latest Update

Just got this update from Cooper's Aunt:

Pediatrician just came in. Said they are consulting a muscular skeletal specialist because the MRI came back as no pocket of infected fluid, but positive for bone infection.

The good news, we now know the source of the infection is in the tibia bone! Hallelujah for that. Treatment would normally be major surgery to drain the infection.

However, the orthopedic surgeons said this is a "complicated infection" and appears to be more in the muscle and outside surface of the bone. So in the am, they are consulting a musculoskeletal specialist to determine treatment. This may or may not include them debriding (scraping) the infection off the following day. Hopefully we will know more regarding surgery tomorrow. We do know he will be on strong antibiotics for the next 4-6 weeks regardless.

So while the ultimate plan is still a bit up in the air, we feel much better knowing where the blood infection is coming from, and how we can now be on a path to getting him well. Please keep the prayers coming! 🙏

Update: A good one!

They did a biopsy on Cooper’s leg/knee yesterday. They also drilled a hole in his tibia to relieve the pressure from the staph infection that had settled and become encapsulated there. Today he is fever free - first time in 13 days - and pneumonia free, so he’s been out of his room, and walking with crutches, for the first time in a week! Your lrayers have been much appreciated! Man, i have heqrd some realbhorrornatoriea about hia treatment and the horrid lack of bedside manners from the doctors at Children’s Mercy! But i’ll save them. I’m just Rejoicing that he is doing so well!

And "just like that"...he woke up this morning and his leg was red and hot to the touch. So oral antibiotics are apparently NOT working. And doctors are just being ignorant. Ugh!!
