Cooper I doing well! He wanted to go to school yesterday, but mom made him wait. He went today, and appears well.

Unfortunately, Cooper had to go to the ER today. His knee has gotten progressively more painful again, is swollen, and red. He was in so much pain last night he laid his head on his mom’s lap and cried. The doctor at Overland Prak Regional was flabbergasted at all that he heard about the treatment Cooper received at Children’s Mercy. He said they should have kept him on IV antibiotics considerably longer and he should never have been released 2 days after surgery. Long story longer, while there is no indication there is infection in his blood, the markers for inlammation were at a 6. It was at a 7 the day before surgery and should be at a 1 or so by now. He will see an orthopedic specialist tomorrow, first thing in the morning. They will lay out a treatment plan at that point. There is a good chance they will have to go back in and clean the infection out of the bone again. Prayers again much appreciated.

So sorry to read that Cooper is going through this again. Prayers that this hospital will give him better care and will get him on the road to recovery..

Thanks for asking! And thanks for praying! He has been seen by both the infectious diseases specialist and an orthopedic specialist. They studied all of the charts and everything they could get their hands on regarding Cooler’s case. While they were absolutely flabbergasted at the deplorable treatment he received at Children’s Mercy, after seeing Cooper for themselves, and running some tests, they like what they are seeing. Infection gone from blood, leg healing nicely. He is truly a blessed young man!

Just wanted to thank you all again for your prayers for Cooper. He has been cleared to begin dancing again and next weekend he will be competing for the first time since he started getting sick. (I'm trying to figure out if I can stretch the budget far enough to get up there to support him!) I understand he has had to change some of his choreography a little bit since his leg is still not 100% following his surgery. But at least he gets to dance again! Honestly, there was a time we were concerned about whether or not that would happen...
