Driving east on I 44, between Joplin and Springfield, I saw a sign that said something like "a new route to Branson through Aurora." Does anyone know anything about this route?

I'm not sure what you saw, you can get to Branson via Aurora would it's not going to be a quick route.
You can get off of I-44 onto the Vetrans Memorial Highway (it's a new loop, I think it's exit 69 or so - it loops around the west and south edge of Springfield, and will take you to HWY 65. It would cut 30 minutes or so off the trip I suspect. |

we used to take that route many years ago, it's much slower, many little towns to go thru, narrow roads... or at least it used to be. routes been there all along, think someone must have put the sign up trying to pull a little traffic down through those smaller towns make some money off us tourists.
best thing is the route that ggh decribed, cuts 15 to 20 minutes off your drive time. |

Thanks Basil - I can never remember what they named that HWY - my travels usually keep me west of the 72 mile marker.

Thanks for the replies. The Missouri Travel place just inside the Missouri state line told us about the exit 69 route and we took it. It did save time and was a good road to Hwy 65.

Exit 69 on I-44
The James River Expressway & Hwy 360 are the names of the short-cut you are talking about as stated previosly by others. However; upon returning from Branson, you won't see James River Highway or Hwy 360 on the sign where you turn off of Hwy 65 to go back the same way you came. On the return trip I believe the sign says Hwy 60 West. I know I on my first trip back from Branson this year I kept looking for a sign that said James River Expressway and I kept looking all the way around Springfield. But then it doesn't take much to throw me off track. On the last couple of trips I did find the short cut on the way back and I'm pretty sure that Hwy 60 West is what's on the sign.
