A recent Letter to the Editor, appearing in the Branson Courier published under the heading “Rockaway Beach gambles between choices, infighting and whining” makes an interesting supposition. Rockaway Beach is not having problems because of Branson’s success but rather in spite of Branson’s success
Thankfully, for those visiting and living in the Branson area the “City of Branson” is not “Branson.”
After the term “Branson” being in the public domain for over 120 years and despite the fact that it is a geographic location, the City of Branson is sending out letters to businesses saying that they have control over the use of the term “Branson.” Branson’s favorite editorial cartoonist, John Logan has done an excellent job of illustrating the situation in his cartoon “NAMEgate Abuse Grows In Branson.” For an additional editorial perspective two recent editorials appearing in the Branson Daily Independent and on line in the Branson Courier entitled, “Give us a break, the City of Branson can keep the term ‘Dodink’ but leave ‘Branson’ alone, please!” and “Wouldn’t it be better for ‘Branson’ if the City of Branson changed its name to the ‘City of New Branson?‘” might be helpful.

A Branson Courier article entitled, “Combined Branson Junior High and High School Choirs Present ‘How Can I Keep from Singing Songs of Joy and Celebration?’” indicates that the best show in Branson on that date just might have been provided by the combined choirs of the Branson Junior High School and Branson High School. Under the direction of Bob Abbott and Erika O’Bryant the choirs demonstrated just how effective the educational opportunities available to students in the Branson School District, in the area of fine arts, are as they presented a concert entitled “How Can I Keep From Singing Songs of Joy and Celebration?” in the Branson High School Theatre. Our kids did a super job!

I’ve got it from a reliable source that the #1 Hits of the 60’s Show will be making the Jim Stafford Theatre their new home in 2007. They’ve already begun announcing the change of venue during the show. More information will be available once the official press release is out. This is a great move for them and I wish them the best of luck!
