There is an excellent capsule review of the Hamner Barber Variety Show appearing on the 1Branson.Com “Shows Forum.” The show, located at the Hamner Barber Theatre on the north side of the Shepherd of the Hills Expressway, features the incredible illusions and magic of Dave and Denise Hamner featuring their beautiful birds and the hilariously funny comedy and ventriloquism of Jim Barber.

Last night, at their regularly scheduled meeting, after about 90 minutes of citizen input and board discussion, the Branson Board of Aldermen voted, by a six to zero (6-0) margin, to reduce the size of a proposed 25 story skyscraper to 12 stories. The proposed skyscraper is to be constructed as part of a $100 million multi use retail and resort complex to be constructed at the junction of U.S. Highway 65 and State Highway 248 in Branson. The complex is being jointly developed by HCW Development Company, of Branson, and Evergreen Investments, of Lebanon.
The developer had sought planning and zoning changes necessary to build the 25 story building but there was strong objection from local residents to the height of the building at the very entrance to Branson and the first impression it would create on visitors coming to Branson for its small town atmosphere and flavor. The reduction in size was a compromise to accommodate both the economic development needs of Branson, the desires of its citizens, and the preservation of Branson’s down home Ozarks image. The developer indicated that they still had to do feasibility studies on the project and that it was in the early stages of planning.
Do not be distressed because there has been no press release or publicity released on Mannheim Steam Rollers imminent appearance in Branson, Missouri for the 2006 season. Mannheim Steam Roller will be in Branson doing a Christmas Show at the Branson’s Grand Palace Theatre.
Even the fact that there is no indication that they will be appearing in Branson on the Mannheim Steamroller website, as of 0545 CDT this morning, should not, in the final analysis, deter them from appearing at the Grand Palace November 3 through December 9, 2006 as indicated on the Grand Palace web site. Tickets and the schedule are available at the Grand Palace website and from the Grand Palace on line. It is anticipated that press releases and additional publicity will be out this week. When it is released it will be published in the next issue of the Branson Courier.
Branson now has a Charley’s Grilled Subs at Branson Landing. It is owned by Bob and Debbie Fall, has just been open for a few days, and will have its Grand Opening on October 2, 2006.
The Ole Seagull ate at Charley’s Grilled Subs on September 24, 2006, at about 10:30 a.m. He had the Philadelphia Steak Cheese Sandwich, which was served in a very timely manner, was very reasonably priced at $4.49 for a seven inch sandwich, and tasted delicious. The restaurant was clean and the help was very friendly. Now the difference between “toasted” and “grilled” is what?
