Thankfully, for those visiting and living in the Branson area the “City of Branson” is not “Branson.”
After the term “Branson” being in the public domain for over 120 years and despite the fact that it is a geographic location, the City of Branson is sending out letters to businesses saying that they have control over the use of the term “Branson.” Branson’s favorite editorial cartoonist, John Logan has done an excellent job of illustrating the situation in his cartoon “NAMEgate Abuse Grows In Branson.” For an additional editorial perspective two recent editorials appearing in the Branson Daily Independent and on line in the Branson Courier entitled, “Give us a break, the City of Branson can keep the term ‘Dodink’ but leave ‘Branson’ alone, please!” and “Wouldn’t it be better for ‘Branson’ if the City of Branson changed its name to the ‘City of New Branson?‘” might be helpful.
