Shows We've Seen

We're half way through our show choices for this trip to Branson. We first saw Down Home Country - always a great show of classic country music. It did not disappoint. This morning we saw Clay Cooper's, one we've been attending periodically for nearly 20 years. Wow!! It was very impressive with lots of music, lots of audience consideration and lots of impressive special effects. I was particularly surprised to see how Colton has grown up some and evolved into a full-fledged performer. When we first saw him, he was about 3 feet tall and playing a little fiddle with Wayne Massengill. We were at the morning show, so we didn't see Caden, but I'm sure he's progressed too. One of the highlights for me was the 4 women - sorry, the only name I know is Tina Cooper - who sang Hank William's song - if memory serves me "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry" Absolutely beautiful. Clay was his usual friendly, solicitous host. He is Branson, in many ways. In the afternoon, we saw the Vintage Baldknobbers. Brandon and the cast did a great job too, with lots of music and some great comedy from Hargus. First time I ever saw him without his costume when he returned to the stage at the end of the show. I'd walk right by him on the street and never know it was him. Anyway, Brandon and Megan have worked hard to put together a good show and succeeded in preserving the Baldknobbers legacy. Good luck you two. More to come for the additional 3 shows.

Today's Shows

First show today was Hot Rods and High Heels. Another high energy Clay and Tina Cooper production. Lots of music and lots of activity with many, many talented singers and dancers. Once again Colton Cooper's talents were front and center on the stage. He has matured into a great performer. This show was a great look back at the 50's music. One thing worthy of note, both productions we've seen at Clay Cooper's Theater were well beyond 2 hours in length, with the intermission. In other words, we got our money's worth. Tonight we saw Gene Watson at the Mansion on his 80/80 Tour. It was great, as expected with lots of music and history surrounding those songs. Good crowd and very appreciative of Gene's talents. Hope they got their bus repaired. One more show tomorrow.

Final Show

Today we saw our final show - Matt Gumm and Company. Matt is such a talented entertainer, and all aspects of his talents were on display today. His family and friends were also great. I especially want to compliment his sister for her rendition of "I Will Always Love You". Best I've heard in some time. She did Dolly's creative talents proud. As is often seen, he's bringing his children into the show also, and that's to be commended. We go home tomorrow, so this is the last post. To be honest, I'm not sure why I'm bothering since it doesn't appear as though anyone pays much attention to this site. Our observation of Branson after one year's absence is that it's definitely changing. There were lots of people around today, which meant lots of traffic. Next time - if there is one - we'll come on Sunday and leave on Friday to avoid the crowds and traffic. Not real sure we'll be returning. The changes are many and most not to our liking. i don't blame those making the changes, because they have to keep up with the times, but it looks like Branson is leaving us behind.

I agree with you on Branson changing... Especially with all the trees that people are taking out along with Silver Dollar City taking lots and lots of trees out as well. Everywhere you go there are less and less. And putting new ones out takes years before they can be enjoyed.
Enjoyed you writing!!

As I haven't been to Branson since November 2019, I have little to add to the discussion. I miss the Big Name Entertainers who used to pack the Theaters, especially in the run up to Christmas.

I can't get excited over "Tribute Acts" or shows that use Backing Tracks, either.

On another note, I spent Saturday Morning in Burlington, IA. Love the Waterfront Area, and I look forward to returning when the Construction is finished, Downtown.

Thanks for your post.

Coach Man.

Branson Junkie I agree with Biscuitcreek, please keep posting,

I do agree the changes around here,
I noticed the trees being gone around Silver Dollar City

Did anyone notice all the Vacation Homes that were built near Chateau On the Lake!!....

THe shows..I loved the Legends in concert. but too many copycats of the same group or person,,,

The crowds are here but something seems different.

Please keep posting. I will read it.
