Beaver and Bull Shoals are still rising; TRL is down slightly.

Cushion is 44 feet, low going into rainy season.

Yesterday's storms are not impacting what is coming into the three lakes. They are stable, a bit too high for the season, and water is being passed downstream. Only so much can be, so drawing down the lakes takes time.

There is no forecast of flooding on the White River downstream:

https://water.weather.gov/ahps2/hydr...lzk&gage=dsca4

But, flood stage there (Des Arc) is 24 feet, and here's some noteworthy history:

(1) 39.43 ft on 05/07/2011
(4) 35.53 ft on 05/09/2017
(6) 33.78 ft on 04/17/2008
(7) 33.74 ft on 03/26/2008

Four of the Top Ten crests there have been this time of year, and since the "flood control" reservoirs have been in place.

There have been 31 flood crests since those reservoirs were built. Only 2 of the 33 highest crests were before the "flood control" reservoirs.

Do you have precipitation ammounts in the White river watershed for those years? My guess is most of those crests were also yeats with record rainfall. Flood events that most likely would have been worse without the dams.
After all, they are flood control reservoirs, not flood elimination reservoirs.

Lakes have been steady.

1.5-2" rain forecast for next three days.

Actually, welcome rain, except for the outdoor events that are scheduled.

Who's up for a rainy day?

Not my normal position this time of year, but I'm all for holding 915 awhile.

Not about the lake level but the "Rock Snot " is really bad this year and is making fishing difficult. There were signs a couple days ago this Pond was getting ready to turn over with floating patches of junk visible.

Snot's normal, but maybe worse than normal this year, and likely gone in a month. At least it's not hydrilla.

There's been a lot of tournaments, and early-morning boat traffic, huh?

NWS is showing 1 1/2" storm total for our area, but we have 3" in our gauge. Since I was out in it, I agree with the 3". Considering the tracking, the entire watershed got that amount of rain.

The Kings River in Berryville is showing it more than the James River. The Kings has jumped from 4 feet to 12 feet at Berryville, and the current flow is 10200. Kings + James + Beaver coming into Table Rock is a whole lot more than what is going out.

All three lakes showing the effect . . . Beaver and Table Rock more. The effect will be more tomorrow.

Kings River at Berryville has just turned down, after rising 12 feet yesterday. James River at Galena is still up a tick, but inconsequential.

TRL:
03MAY2018 0700 915.43
04MAY2018 0700 916.75

Still going up. Steady, moderate release.

Beaver:
02MAY2018 2000 1127.55
04MAY2018 0700 1129.73

Also still going up. Steady, moderate release.

The water's actually pretty clear. Lots of fishing going on, and they're biting.

I caught a nice goggle-eye every cast . . . until I decided to start keeping them. DW's hungry for a fish fry.

Then . . .

I caught a mess, cleaned them, and put them in the freezer, then ate my cashew chicken.

The fortune cookie fortune:

If you go fishing, your catch will be plentiful

TRL:

ATTENTION: There are additional releases not shown. Turbine releases are being augmented with spillway releases of 5,000 cfs (5 gates @ 1.0 ft).
[Total Release = Turbine Release + Spillway Release]

05MAY2018 0400 917.50
05MAY2018 0500 917.51
05MAY2018 0600 917.51

Pretty much has it stopped.
Not much rain in the 8-day forecast.

Before I've posted that this is not a good level for us, but it's not a bad level if it stays there. Any higher and our docks are in the trees.

Another bad thing about being this high is the large pieces of jetsam floating in the lake. They would do a number on lower units.

Way-too-much fishing pressure. Like hunting is suspended during mating season for land-dwellers, fishing should be suspended during spawning season, like on the Ozark streams and rivers. At least tournament fishing, where they are teasing spawning fish sitting on their nest, and then taking them miles to the weigh-in.

In the rest of the state, black bass from streams may not be possessed March 1 - May 25, 2018. Only catch-and-release fishing for black bass is allowed during this time in this area of the state

It's been a strange rainy pattern last night and today. There's no organized storm, but a lot of little showers passing through.

Overall just a trace, but enough to keep me from mowing.

They are releasing extra from TRL, 15,000 CFS:

ATTENTION: There are additional releases not shown. Turbine releases are being augmented with spillway releases of 5,000 cfs (5 gates @ 1.0 ft).
[Total Release = Turbine Release + Spillway Release]

and it is drawing down, but very little:

09MAY2018 0500 917.35
09MAY2018 0600 917.37
09MAY2018 0700 917.33
09MAY2018 0800 917.33

That is because they are drawing down Beaver:

ATTENTION: The Beaver spillway gates are making flood releases at this time. The spillway release is approximately 7,600 cfs (7 gates @ 1.0 ft).

[Total Release = Turbine Release + Spillway Release]

They have had 5 gates open one foot each since Friday. They are back to the situation of a month or so ago. One turbine is inoperable so they are using the flood gates.
