Any suggestions on a nice hotel on the beach in Destin?

For when?

I ask because if you are heading there right now, it will probably not be "nice."

I am of no help with a hotel - partially because what I look for in a hotel are long gone along the beach (and partially because it's been years since I've stayed in Destin).

When I stay on the beach, I want to be ON the beach - where I can see it out my balcony, out the windows when possible, and walk out onto the water with as few stairs as possible. I prefer fewer hotel/condo rooms than more, because that means fewer fighting for the beachfront. It also means fewer beach amenities - probably no beach chair/umbrella rentals, and no cabana boy with umbrella drinks.

Everyone looks for something different. I recently visited with friends who spent a month in the area several blocks from the beach, because they didn't want the noise of the parties that might take place on the beach. If I can't see the beach, smell the ocean, hear the waves and walk on the sand at sunrise and sunset I just as well stay home, but to each his own.

They would like to be right on the beach and have as few steps as possible to get there. The last places we stayed were condos and were very nice, but the complex was so big that the actual beach area was quite a walk. This trip will just be daughter and her husband. They were thinking a nice hotel for just the two of them.

My absolute favorite is the Hilton Sandestin. You would never have to leave it for anything... Everything you could possibly want or need is there.
But if you do leave, take the drive down 30A to Seaside or Rosemary Beach for shopping and great food.
Or the Red Bar in Grayson Beach for a fabulous meal.

You are welcome.
The movie, The Truman Show, was filmed in Seaside, FL on 30A.
Also in Grayton Beach (one town begins as the other ends on 30A) is the best place to eat...The Red Bar.

We have also enjoyed Panama City Beach because there are more places and more affordable place to stay right on the Beach.

The Holiday Inn Resort in PCB is a favorite place of ours.

Our last stay was in Orange Beach, but we've stayed in Gulf Shores as well - all about 30 minutes from Pensacola. I'm looking forward to returning soon!

I love Orange Beach and Gulf Shores, too. Lots of beautiful white sands and lots of condos and hotels right on the beach.
