Tell Me I'm Not Crazy

I was talking with some friends reminiscing about Branson and I told them one of my good memories was when we seen the "Greatest Story Ever Told" ( I am not 100% sure if that was the title) but it was very similar to the Passion Play in Eureka Springs. I remember it being held outside and was located somewhere along Hwy 76 in the heart of the action.

Crazy or not?

You're not crazy. I saw that show, and I remember a couple of Roman soldiers standing along Hwy. 76 before the show starts. I'm trying to remember how old I would have been.

We saw this show also. Seems as though it was back in the 70's that we saw it. If I remember correctly--and that is questionable--it was down Gretna just a bit off the strip. We talked about this a long time ago on the board and someone suggested that the outdoor theater that you could see off of Shepherd of the Hills Expressway was the place, but I don't think that was it. Anyone know what did go on in that location?

The amphitheater you can see off SOH Expressway was used for concerts. Don't know if it was used for anything else.

There was also a small outdoor theater, located on east side of Gretna, a "couple blocks" NORTH of the Titanic location.

Part of that lot is now occupied by a motel with yellow siding...... Motel's name might be Motel 9 (?)

Good, I am not crazy, well not much anyway

I was thinking when I seen it it would have been around 1982-1983 maybe. I just remember it was down in a holler but not far from the strip at all.

I was looking at the history timeline and saw this:

"27. 1984: Musicland USA opened on Gretna Road, just off Highway 76."

Just wondered where this was in relation to what you are talking about. Actually, there is a small, empty theater down around the curve from Titanic so probably has nothing to do with this.

This is what the timeline says:

9. 1986: The Ozark Mountain Amphitheater opened on the SoH Expressway. It seated 8,500 and featured guest entertainers and performers.

THis MUSICLAND is the campground located just north of the Titanic exhibit.
Name is misleading.

Wasn't the drama located down a road off of 76, close to where the Bens Wishing Well use to be that has been torn down, in the last couple years or so. I remember going to that, it was a good play.

Yes! We went by there this morning. It's Titanic and the campground and a little church and around the curve. This pic (dark, headed into the sun and driving past with a car on our tail) is the motel C4B mentioned and the closed theater area. Maybe a better pic later.

The ampitheatre that "Moonshiner" is referring to operated for a year or two in the mid-80's. It was located north of the Strip, I believe just north of the Hall of Fame Motel, or that vicinity in the midst of a wooded-area. (Should not to be confused with the much-larger Ozark-Mountain Ampitheater on Gretna) The one in-question, featured the "life of Christ" from the perspective of John the Baptist. Not nearly the epic of the "Passion-Play" at Eureka Springs, but still wonderfully done. On the evening that we were there, the owner was on hand to personally greet every attendee...there were not many, and that apparently was the reason for the demise of the show. I can't remember the exact title of the production though.

In post #6 I shoulda said NORTH of the Titanic......good grief......I'm sorry, folks!

This location IS where I was thinking about, that used to have a smaller outdoor theater. Your pic is also exactly the place I am thinking about.....

If you drive down into the v-e-r-y steep driveway & precarious parking lot, you can see where rows of bleachers used to be fastened to the concrete/blacktop.
