Texas Roadhouse/Springfield

Fam picked it, their new favorite Springfield steak place.

Sat nite feeding time, 5:30 PM.

Waited 1 1/2 hours for a table.

Decent food. Fair Prices.

People still waiting for a table when we left, 8:30.

Avoid if you have an aversion to crowds, noise or fun-having.

Texas Roadhouse in our area has 'call ahead seating'....might be an option for you in Springfield if you like to go there often.

We eat there often, but it's one of those places we avoid at dinner on Fri/Sat night. We've never had a much more than a 5 minute wait on any other day/night.

Colton's on Independence in Spfld also has a good steak.

Colton's was fam's former fav. Not any more.

This TR has call-ahead, too, advertised on every light hanging over every table. Those who did were waiting in the crowd with us, and we got our table before them, so we don't know exactly how their call-ahead works. It was a common topic of discussion among the waiters, not the waiters . . . the waiters.

Their number system for those waiting for a table was a topic of discussion, too, cuz it has no rhyme nor reason. You just get a number to have a number, but not in any order.

Yes, it is against my cardinal rule to do what others do at the same time others do it, like going to SDC, but I was not in charge, just a tagger-alonger. I was told just to shut up a few times, like when I found us seating at the bar.

Or, like when one of the call-ahead people (called from Bolivar!!!) said something about a great steak place in Pittsburg, KS, and I said if we leave now we can get a table there before we can here.

or like when everyone said, you can go anywhere else in Springfield and it will be just like this, and I said, but I can be sitting at home at the lake with a pizza before we get a table here.

The criticism was all in fun, to kill time, and the captive, crowded-in audience was all laughing, in good spirits.

We had fun.

Did I mention the fun-having?

Sometimes their 'name taking' procedures just don't make a whole lot of sense!!!! Like last night at Colton's ---- we were seated before some others who were waiting when we arrived. I thought maybe it was because DH said 'we'll take first available', but then I was watching the hostess stand after we were seated and a 'party' that had been waiting when we arrived promptly 'confronted the hostess' after we were seated BEFORE they were, and they were immediately taken to their table. If we arrive at a 'good' eating establishment at 'prime dining time' I go in with the 'mindset' that we'll probably have to wait, also thinking that we'll get seated quicker than if we would leave, drive to another restaurant, and put our name on a list there. Sometimes, you just can't 'win', so it's best to just 'go with the flow'! KWIM?

Our daughter was a hostess for many years at an 'upscale' restaurant and she says "Mom, there's a lot more 'to it' than you realize!" ??????????????????

We like to eat around 4:00 to 5:00 PM and we never have crowds, even at the better restaurants. I realize people who work can't make it that early. At least we get out of their way, so they can have our table!

Yeah, then you sprinkle in the "fun-having" and it really gets disgusting

We do the same as GGH.

There are restaurants that we really enjoy but we know not to go them on a Friday or Saturday unless (1) you don't mind waiting or (2) you get there early before the crowd.

If I go to a restaurant on Friday and Saturday night after 7PM and they do not have a crowd, I am going to wonder about the quality of the food.

Texas Roadhouse is a favorite on mine, love their prime rib, but we don't go on a Friday or Saturday night if we are in a hurry to get somewhere later. Personally, I would rather wait, within limits, at a restaurant where I know the food is going to be good than to get right in to a place where the food is just so-so.

Everybody has to make that decision as to what pleases them.

No . . . what pleases those they are with.

Part of the fun-having is that the fam includes our nephews. Our 27-year-old is the greatest young man, but he is not married, so we'all give him a hard time.

Our waitperson was extremely cute, so I/we intitiated a hooking-him-up-with-her thing. Turns out her mom is the bartender and our nephew already had a little thing going with her, just having fun.

It wound up that our waitperson just graduated from nursing school, and has not had time for a boyfriend, so I introduced my nephew to her, mentioning that he is a surgeon over at Cox.

All decent surgeons wear a Mossy Oak cap, so we wound up putting his cell phone # on his and giving it to her. Same on his CC slip, with the message call me, join us at the lake.

His only comment, "I can't believe I gave my cap away."
