One quote from the article is particularly interesting, “And when Ashcroft declared the ‘economic emergency’ at a public meeting in Branson in June 1992--just months before he was to leave office--he was introduced by Herschend. At that time, Ashcroft said the highway would be finished by 1998 and reduce traffic congestion in downtown.”

The simple truth of the matter, in an Ole Seagull’s opinion, is there was no economic emergency involving traffic, either down town or on Highway 76 that the High road was going to solve back in the mid 90s or now. Is there just the possibility that the low use of the Highroad is more dependent on the fact that most people coming to Branson are staying in Branson proper and that the Highroad doesn’t help get them to their hotels or the majority of the other places they might want to go? How does the Highroad help get someone to Branson Landing, Branson’s Theatre district, Titanic, major shopping malls, downtown, etc.

For starters, here's the map put out by Fall Creek. 465 doesn't even exist.





And then there is this one from Branson-Missouri.com. Again 465 doesn't even exist. (Mind you the highroad has been in existence now for almost a decade)





But this one in particular just tickled me the most. It is from Branson.com Which is the "Official Branson Website" featuring the Branson Tourism Center's map. I mean good grief your Branson Tourism Center logo dwarfs the 465 in comparison.





All of these are fairly pathetic, but I still maintain that the Best Read Guide's attempt to bury the highroad is the best I have seen. 5 foldout pages and in the uppermost lefthand corner is a smidgen of a line for 465.

He finds them filled with relevant information that most Branson visitors would want to use to get from place to place while they are in Branson. It is his personal opinion that the Highroad doesn't show on most of the the local Branson Maps for the same reason Highway 86 and 13 aren't shown; it is irrelevant for most Branson visitors.

Slightly off topic but isn't also irrelevant to have closed theaters and attractions on the map, for example: Tall Timbers Lumberjack Show on Indian Point, Bart Rockett on 76, 50s at the Hop at Branson Meadows, Celebration City, Playtime Pizza? The map doesn't show the Fall Creek Road extension, either, but that just opened recently.

There you go. It appears that its not so well hidden after all and has nothing to do with reducing traffic in downtown Branson or any where else in Branson, but is rather a thru road for locals and others.

Just a matter of elimination - the HighRoad, OBVIOUSLY by the route, was intended to take folks away from downtown, and help Branson grow Westwardly - which Branson has sucessfully done, IMO.

Just a matter of elimination - the HighRoad, OBVIOUSLY by the route, was intended to take folks away from downtown, and help Branson grow Westwardly - which Branson has sucessfully done, IMO.

BTW, just got back from Sudswash in Branson, took the highroad home. 1:35 p.m. 32 cars. So in 8 minutes I came across 32 cars. If that data is extrapolated out over time that would give me a projected count 240 per hour.

I have never that I can recall ever had the highroad to myself, like NotJLB would like to claim. It does get used. If Branson would knock the garbage off and work to promote it a little better those numbers could jump 20 fold in 1 year.

The idea is to offer your customers MORE, not less.
