Sorry I can't help you with Branson, BUT if you happen to go through Kansas City on your way to Branson, plan on stopping at Strouds.

We stopped there last month and it is the first time I ever thought chicken and gravy tasted like it did years ago. The only problem was the amount you were served and it was a way to much.

Here's a link: http://www.stroudsrestaurant.com/

If someone knows of a place in Branson, I"ll give it a try later this month.

Chesters has pan fried chicken on Sundays. I find it very hard to beat. It's served family style with all the trimmins' in separate bowls. More than you can eat!

Culver's in Branson has some of the best fried chicken in town -- and I rank it right up there with Strouds in KC. and the only other place is at the Branson Cafe downtown. They also have good chicken, but I would take Culvers over theirs.

I'll have to try Culver's fried chicken. Especially if you rank it up there with Strouds -- they set a pretty high standard!

The best fried chicken in my opinion is Lamberts Cafe in Ozark.

I really like their chicken. It is very good. In fact, we found it one day and when we can't afford to go to Strouds but want a chicken fix, we go to Culvers. Besides, even with the new Strouds, if you aren't there early early, there is a good 40 minutes to an hour and a half wait.

Is the Culver's in Branson the same Culver's chain that specializes in frozen custard? I lived in the Milwaukee area (this was 11-12 years ago) and used to eat their chicken all the time...only because it was about 5 minutes away from my house, and the custard flavor of the day was always fun to check out. The chicken was never very good-it's essentially fast food. I would definitely look elsewhere if I were looking for the best in Branson.

Best fried chicken in Branson for at least the last 40 years or so is at the Branson Cafe, in "old" downtown Branson.

Wait, I may not mean the shack. I just saw leaannwriter's reply and I always get the shack and branson cafe mixed up. I am talking about the one on the south side of the street.
