Review: Rankin Brothers

I had not seen anything about the Rankin Brothers except for a 30 second skit on a TV in the lobby of another theater. I assumed it would be two brothers setting on the stage and playing a guitar and/or banjo. I had seen the big sign on the side of the Welk Theater but that is the extent of my knowledge of the Rankin Brother’s show.

Over the Labor Day weekend a group of friends meet in Branson and went to several shows while everybody was in town. The group wanted to attend the Rankin Brothers. Some of the group that lived in Branson had gone to the show and said it was great. I did NOT want to attend. I don’t like country music especially the “old” country music and I told the group I would attend another show.

I was convinced to attend the show by one of the group. I finally agreed to attend the show with the group. I was NOT expecting much. I figured I would be bored for 2 hours but I went along with the “group”.

All I can say, I was VERY wrong. From the first song to the final song, the show was fantastic. The two brothers were fun, energetic, and were very personable. The women in the group were impressed with the boys looks. All I can say is those Rankin Brothers kept standing in front of the 3 gorgeous ladies that were their “Rankinettes” and blocking my view. Just because it was their show, it still wasn’t fair.

I enjoyed their music selection. They performed music from the 50s all the way up to modern rock songs. The majority of the selections were rock. The Rankin Brothers and the Rankinettes perform some gospel but there is a large variety of music performed during the show and I didn’t keep notes on what songs but they were ALL done well. Each of the Raninettes perform several solo songs during the show. They are all very talented performers in their own right.

Twice during the show they encouraged people to get up and dance during the songs. One was during a slow love song and couples got up and danced in the darkened sides of the stage. During ‘The Twist” everybody was up doing the Twist in the front and the isles. It was a blast to watch everybody up doing the twist.

They had a live band play during the show. This is rare nowadays and I was surprised that they had a live band. The band was great. One of the band sang a song and played the sax. I thought it was great that they include the band in the show and showcase their talent.

After the show, the Rankin Brothers and the ladies are all out front shaking hands and telling everybody how much they appreciate them coming to the show. They REALLY seemed to appreciate everybody coming.

Being a man, I hate to admit that I was wrong but I was very wrong about this show. The show is great and everybody should give them a chance. I doubt that anyone would NOT like this show if they like live music. The band is great. The Raninettes are not only very pretty but very talented and the Rankin Brothers are great performers that put on a wonderful show.

great review and I was very happy to read it. I am seeing them on 9-15 and only took the word of this board when I order the tickets. My DH really did not want to go but I am making him go (I hope he won't be kicking and screaming). I hope he feels the same way you did when we leave. I am sure he will
Thanks again

My wife and I have gone several times since June. I understand when they return from their summer break on Monday, 15 SEP 08, they will have some changes in the show. I've heard they added a Roy Orbison song. That's gotta be good. Can't wait to get back to see what other changes they've made. This is a top-notch show with top-notch talent.

They will be doing a lot of 2:00PM shows, as well as some 8:00PM shows, starting this month so that would be a schedule conflict for Mike Bliss as he is also in Joey Riley's 2:00PM show.

Absolutely - best show in Branson. Where else can I sing along to "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" while Betsy Cathcart, Peggy Lennon's daughter, sings back-up vocals?
I'm going back!
