Riviera Mayan Palace, Cancun area

I have been offered a week stay here- for the price of my airline ticket. I never thought I'd find myself thinking of heading to Mexico.... but ........

I understand it's just outside of Playa del Carmen about 10 minutes.

What can I expect? .... remember I've never been to Mexico, so what would we be in for if we accept the offer.

we stayed at two of the palace resorts in the cancun area and i cannot tell you how wonderful it was! they pick you up at the airport and take you directly to the resort when you arrive and back to the airport on your departure date. The food was fabulous, the rooms were awesome - all of the rooms where we stayed had double jacuzzi tubs. The pools were beautiful . . . if you have a passport, this should be a piece of cake . . . GO and enjoy!!!!!!

You can expect beautiful blue water, service second to none ( 99% of the time )..... really depends on what you would like to do,tour the mayan ruins ( my favorite ) tons of shopping especially in PLAYA...... snorkel or diving....... or just do nothing and lay on the beach........

I don't know a whole lot about this resort except that everybody that I know that has stayed there, loved it ....... the beach is nice but kind of rocky near the shore, swimming may not be the best......

Actually it's about a 15-20 minute cab ride to PLAYA, for about $20 bucks, I believe the resort has a shuttle for around 3 or 4 bucks ( not real sure )

I don't know if you will love it, like it or hate it, but for the price of a airline ticket, I think it's worth a try, at least once ..(IMO )

cancun is Fabulous.......I agree that trips to the ruins is my favorite part....book a tour.....hint(pay for your tour with your credit card, the mexican exchange rate changes constantly and your credit card company will get you a good exchange rate).

remember your passport is now REQUired when going to Mexico.

The Mayan Palace is a very nice property - not the absolute best property in the area, but still very highly rated.

I really can't add anything to what's already been said - however, I want to caution you if you're planning to visit for a timeshare presentation or something similar. Timeshares and etc. have been well-discussed elsewhere on these boards, so I won't rehash things. Yet, for as high-pressure as most timeshare salespeople here in the US can be, it's much more so south of the border. Typically, for Mexico, it's easy to find air-hotel package deals at an all-inclusive property that will cost you LESS than staying in a timeshare property you own.

If that's why you're going, do your research as much as you can BEFORE you leave. And be on your guard.

Meanwhile, at the Palace, enjoy yourself as much as you can!

when we stayed at the palace resorts (the last two years), the shuttle service to playa was free (as was the airport shuttle) and the resort gave us a choice of 2 free day excursions from a list of about 8, with one of them being the mayan ruins (loved it!). we were given the opportunity to listen to a time share presentation for a big gift of some sort, but we declined and were not treated any less royal. i only have good things to report about our experiences with the palace resorts (we stayed at the moon palace and the aventura palace). (we do not own any timeshares and do not intend to.)

No time share sale included - we would be going as guest of time share owners.

How do I find a cheap airline flights from Missouri - or somewhere driveable?

If you are close to Bentonville (XNA) try there for cheaper flights.

Hopefully you will dodge the hurricanes if you are going within the next 60 days.
