Hawaii
Does anyone know of any great message boards or websites for Hawaii? We'd love to go there in June 09 for our 10 year anniversary. Thanks!

If you want a pure tourist site just go for those that are sponsored by a gov agency of sorts. If you want specific info about a particular attraction I could probably steer you in the right direction. http://hawaiithreads.com/

I know I might sound like a broken record to some....
But you might consider also working with a professional travel agent in planning part or all of your Hawaii anniversary trip. Many agents specialize in Hawaii to some degree and are able to help you find just what you want.

We totally used a travel agent for Hawaii. I don't know where a person would start otherwise. guess by figuring out which island(s) you want to visit. I will want to go back to Hawaii now, too!

Thanks for all the replies, I will use a travel agent, but I still like to do my own research so I can understand the area better and get the nitty gritty from the locals or others who have been there. Thanks again!

Whenever anyone asks me about visiting Hawaii, I always encourage them to visit the visitors bureau website www.gohawaii.com. Filled with info on all the islands and you can even download the entire visitor guide! They also have a list of all the local festivals and events going on throughout the year.
Also, check out the local HI newspapers. They have blogs by locals about all things Hawaiian. www.starbulletin.com and www.honoluluadvertiser.com

We are planning a trip to Oahu in April 2009! This will be our retirement gift to ourselves for working for so many years! I am so excited. I can't wait!

Once in Hawaii, what is a good way to travel between the islands that won't break the bank? I'm sure there are many options for air and water shuttles, but are some run by the state like a mass transit system? We will spread our 10 days over two islands.
A friend went by cruise ship from LA and stayed on ship each night and especially enjoyed not having to pack and move during the trip. However, the trip to & from Hawaii was LONG, he said. We're planning this next July (I know it's the worst time to travel there, but...), and are weighing some options on getting to see at least 2 different islands. |

Inter-island travel is available by regular jet service (most common) and now there is a ferry service that runs between Oahu and Maui. With tourism down a bit, you may find some good deals right now. There is no state sponsored mass transit inter-island; but a fantastic bus transit system on Oahu - you can go anywhere on the island on The Bus! You might try an inter-island cruise which I always recommend to folks that want to see more than one island on their visit. Although several of the cruise ships have left the island market, you may still be able to find a great price on this.
Aloha!
