Who Remembers Stacey T. Gravatt?
Branson Bluesman brought up Stacey in another thread. I was just wondering who remembers this one of a kind talent and might have a Stacey memory to tell?

I thought Stacy was an awesome performer!! My favorite memory of him was singing/playing TROUBLE, at Echo Hollow back in the mid 90s. He really made the "time machine band" for me.

I remember a story about Stacey and Mike Spence (did sound with Branson Bros. at Echo Hollow) when they were on a house boat on Tablerock and had a mishap by the Kimberling City bridge. I won't go into more detail here, but it was quite a wild adventure...

I produced 'The Echo Hollow Jubilee" at SDC back in the mid-90's and Stacey was a big part of the show. He was a member of 'The Time Machine Band' and to this day, whenever I see a strong guitar player/ performer, it's easy for me to think about Stacey. GREAT player and band leader, loved his family, a real team player with a fun sense of humor. The Time Machine guys (Randy, Andy, Rodney, Greg, & Wil) are all spread out doing different projects now, but I have no doubt that they look back fondly about their time with Stacey.
One memory. During a closed, dress rehearsal for Echo Hollow Jubilee, a couple of dozen performers from around the globe, in town for World West, suddenly stormed the stage and began singing and dancing along with the cast. After the number ended, the foreign performers milled around the stage in a frenzy and I heard Stacey, a big smile plastered on his face, say 'Do you speak English? No? Then how am I ever going to communicate to you that if you ever touch my guitar again I am going to have to &*@##$!' And then the girl from Ukraine or Macedonia or wherever she came from, gave Stacey a big hug and exclaimed in her thick accent "You are welcome!" Ah, Stacey, we miss you! 33 years of age was too early for him to leave us, but he packed a lot of living into a short time. He also taught me a lot about The Sioux. Thanks for mentioning Stacey Gravatte, it was fun to think about him. |

True Talent
I posted the following on the other thread about Stacey,
Stacey was so amazing. He was so much fun to watch and an unbelievable talent. He too was one who always made time for the fans. It's funny, he was my first "crush" as a little girl. I remember when he got married, Valentines day of my freshman year in high school, (not that it had an impact on me, I was 14) BROKE MY HEART!!!!!! Haha Little girls and their crushes I hadn't seen him in years and came back to B-town for a visit in August '97, right before he was diagnosed with cancer. I was so thankful we made the trip. Still remember when Ashley Ellison called and told me he passed away. Sad day. There was no one like him Bransonaudio, I remember coming up for his funeral and going to Echo Hollow. How you stepped in to cover the lead guitar. I have to admit, it was so difficult to walk into Echol Hollow and him not be there. But you did an amazing job. I can't imagine how hard that must have been for you after losing your friend. I watched you the entire night, just as I had with Stacey before. My mom and I talked to you after the show even and said something about what a great job you did. That night there was one single star in the sky and it was right over where you stood. I swore it was Stacey looking down on us all and giving you the strength to be there. October 1, 1997 was a day that this world lost an amazing musician and a great friend. When I started this thread I didn't know where it would go but, I loved the guy. Here is a story we laughed about many times. When he first came to town he went to a party back in his wilder days with a girl. He probably was only here a week or so. Nobody knew who he was and he was dressed in his infamous red boots, white with red striped uppers, up to his knees outside his pants, a bandana headband, white puffy bloused shirt, white tight jeans, Hair 1/2 way down his back, looked like he should a been with Skynard, you who knew Stacey knows what I'm talking about. Never did he ever meet a stranger and just trying to fit in. He started talking to this guy and in his best stoner impersonation voice said "Hey dude I wanna party with you". The guy he was talking to just punched Stacey. After that he immedantly thought I better blast off. He tried finding his ride with the girl who brought him to this party and she had left him. He walked home finding his way the best he could. Oh how it has changed. Welcome to Branson.
