Terry Fator

Is anyone going to see Terry Fator? He was last years winner of America's Got Talent.
He will be at the RFD TV Theater, this Friday and Saturday at 8pm ..

My husband and I are thinking about coming down to see him while we have the chance.... Once he gets to Las Vegas, you know the show tickets will be expensive there..

http://www.rfdtv.com/Theatre/terryfator.html

Looks like tickets in the bottom half of the theater is sold .. so we'll be sitting in the Upper section.. Just not sure yet which night to go..

Terry Fator puts on a top notch show....I know you will be glad you went.

Last Fall, he was a sell-out when he came to Branson to do shows at The Duttons Theatre (as did most of the America's Got Talent Finalists).

I remember my husband saying in the middle of Terry's Show, "Aren't you glad we came!"
The audience was wild for him!

I saw Terry and his act this weekend on RFD TV's "Crook and Chase" show. Very funny as usual! He did plug his upcoming Branson appearance. I think he said his new Vegas gig begins in February.

Go. go. go. I saw him at the Dutton Theatre last summer. He was great. I actually listen to his uplifting CD that I bought.

My husband loves this guy. Wish I would have known he was going to be in Branson before we made our reservations for the following week. Dan was talking about going out to Vegas to see him...

I would have loved to have seen him this weekend as well...but can't make it.

Didn't I see where he has another weekend booked there in the fall?

Great interview with Terry in today's Springfield News-Leader. He said he's been coming to Branson since he was a kid -- a favorite vacation spot for his family.

Thanks, Biscuitcreek.
There's even a video interview with Terry on the link you gave.

Here's a copy of the print version:

Look, who's talking now?

Ventriloquist chats us up before Branson gig.

Sony Hocklander
News-Leader

Singing ventriloquist extraordinaire Terry Fator stopped by the News-Leader recently to promote his performances this weekend at the RFD-TV Theatre in Branson.

The performer, who shot to fame after winning first place on "America's Got Talent" in 2007, is touring across the country before heading to Las Vegas: Fator recentlylanded a five-year, $100 million contract with the Mirage Hotel.

Fator performed as a lead singer in a band before focusing full-time on his other love, ventriloquism, in 2001. Today he considers himself an illusionist when projecting his voice into his puppets, bringing them to life. We can't disagree. When he introduces Winston to News-Leader reporters, it's easy to forget the charming stuffed turtle isn't, well, real.

Certainly don't tell Winston he's not real -- he probably wouldn't believe it. In fact, he had plenty to say when we interviewed Fator and Winston about their success:

NL: When you and Winston appeared on 'Oprah!' with Simon Cowell, what did he tell you?

Terry: Simon Cowell said I was one of the top two entertainers on the planet. ... And getting a compliment from Simon Cowell, well, not many people get a compliment like that.

NL: When you started 'America's Got Talent,' did you think you could win?

Terry: Not in my wildest dreams did I imagine I would win that show. Essentially I auditioned because the guy that was the ventriloquist the first season got on ('The Late Show with) David Letterman.' ... So I figured I'd do three episodes like he did and end up on 'David Letterman.'

But as I got closer and closer (to winning), I started realizing this might happen. ... When they said my name as the winner, I was completely stunned.

NL: What stands out from that experience?

Terry: I met so many wonderful people. ... (and) it was exciting to realize my dreams were coming true. With every show I continued forward on, I was getting more and more famous and more people were recognizing me. ... It was quite surreal. And then to be able to turn that into a headlining gig in Vegas, that was my ultimate dream.

NL: Winston, what are you looking forward to in Vegas?

Winston: I don't know. It's a desert. I guess as a turtle I'll kind of like that.

NL: Are you old enough to gamble?

Winston: Not yet -- well actually, I am.

Terry: Well, how old are you?

Winston: I'm 7, but that's 49 in turtle years.

NL: What inspired Winston's creation?

Terry: He came along during 'America's Got Talent.' Originally I had a Kermit the Frog puppet and I would have (him) sing 'Rainbow Connection.' When I called up the Muppets to see if they would let me do a Kermit the Frog impression (on national TV) ... they said I could do the impression but I could not use the Kermit puppet. Necessity is the mother of invention, so I said, OK, I'll have a turtle do an impression of a frog singing with Louis Armstrong.

NL: Tell us about some of your other puppets.

Terry: The puppet I've had the longest is Walter T. Airedale, who is a country singer extraordinaire. I also have Julius. He's the soul singer. ... Of course Emma Taylor is a lady who sang with me on 'America's Got Talent.' ... Maynard Tompkins is an Elvis impersonator --the only impersonator in the world who does not know any Elvis songs.

I've got several new ones I'm creating for the Mirage. We're going to be constantly creating new characters for the show.

NL: Winston, do you have a best puppet friend?

Winston: (turning to Terry): Do I have a best friend?

Terry: I don't know. You tell me.

Winston: I kind of like Emma. She's really cute.

Terry: Yes, she's very cute.

Winston: Are we dating?

Terry: I don't think you're dating.

Winston: We just sleep together in a single suitcase.

NL: Terry, how has all this changed your life?

Terry: I used to perform for 20 to 40 people at a time, max. And now we go in and sell out theaters everywhere we go. It's a blast.

NL: Is it tougher as a ventriloquist to project singing than talking?

Terry: It's a lot harder ... It's very difficult to get the kind of tone that I get out. In fact, my voice doctor has told me many times that what I do should be physically impossible because I break every rule. ... Singers are supposed to open their mouths and enunciate properly. I keep my mouth very closed.

NL: Are you looking forward to performing in Branson?

Terry: I've been coming to Branson since I was a kid. It's been a favorite vacation spot for my family since I was young. And it was always a dream to be able to come here and perform as a headliner.

I love the people out here. They're family-oriented. They like clean humor. They like to laugh. And they love the music. So it's a perfect spot for what I do.

My humor is geared toward adults intellectually. But the kids love it because ...

Winston: They love the puppets. ... We do have puppets in the show don't we?

Terry: We do have puppets.

NL: Tell us about your new book coming out this fall.

Terry: I never thought in my whole life I would write a whole book. ... It's called 'Who's the Dummy Now?'

Winston: Who is the dummy now?

Terry: I think I still am.
