REVIEW: GAC Nights in Echo Hollow
![]() 1/2 / 5Highs: A couple of soloists, ticket price Lows: Emcee, Gospel section, costumes Recently, we went to check out the show at Echo Hollow after having some fun at SDC. Of course, as always, the ticket price is very affordable once you've gained admission to the park! The show was just good. In years past, the free echo hollow show was a real treat, but this show felt sort of cheap. Things that we liked... There are a couple of soloists in the show that really knocked our socks off. I can't remember their names, but the guy that was really memorable to me appeared out of nowhere with this rich baritone voice singing "Firecracker". It was very well done. The young lady that had a dynamite voice had blonde hair with darker streaks... I can't remember her name or the song she sang... We didn't really enjoy Jay McFerron as host... He's been a fine host in the past, but this year he's also charged with the task of comedy, and I just don't think that he fits the part. The Time Machine Band sounded great, Tracy Heaston played his usual "Chariots-of-Fire-type" solo, which has never been my cup of tea, but I know some people really enjoy that. The costumes were very weak in my opinion. The singer/dancers looked sloppy in some of the outfits Song selection throughout the show was okay, but there were some sections that we didn't enjoy very much - especially the gospel section - it just didn't click. Overall, I would say that there are some very talented people in this show. There's no reason that it couldn't have been better. |

I went to see this show last night and was very impressed. MUCH better than it has been in the last few years. I didn't care for the "guests" they had in previous years. To me it took up too much time for something you could have seen earlier in the day in the park. Personally, I wish the show would go back to two hours or do away with the intermission. I think they can get some more great music in there.
The show features mostly current country music like Carrie Underwood's "So Small", Tim McGraw's "Live Like You Were Dying'", among others. I enjoyed the Alabama medley in the second half as well as a gospel number returning to the show. The band is even featured in the show including a bluegrass number. The only downside for me was the comedy. I felt like I was just getting in to the show and then you have a "comedy" bit. Kudos to Silver Dollar City on a great show!
