Question Mackinac Island???

Anyone have any tips for traveling thru Michigan and Mackinac Island?
We want to take a trip in July.....and have no idea whether we should stay
on the island or in Mackinaw City..... if 1 day is enough for the island, etc.
Also....would like to know of some good restaurants, antique places or "must see" places in Michigan.......I have no idea where to go or what to do...just know I want to go to Mackinac Island! Thanks!

We're going to be in Saginaw July 10-12 for my son's wedding, then on the 13th we're going to St. Ignace and will be there a few days. We're going to Mackinaw Island on the 14th. We found a good rate on a hot tub room overlooking the lake in St Ignace, our friends stayed there last summer, they said it was a nice hotel. We've done research on line for Mackinaw City, St. Ignace, and Mackinaw Island and found there's a bunch of stuff to do up there, plus our future DIL told us of some things to do, which were some of the things we had found on line.
Not sure about any of the eating places, that we're going to found out once we get up there. If I hear of any good places to eat from future DIL I'll post it on here for you.
Have a good time when you go!

If you stay on the Island itself, prepare to pay a premium for the lodging vs. the city. But, the hotels on the island are truly unique and grand; it's a good experience, I feel, if you can swing it.

While you're on the Island, make time for a horse/buggy tour - it's quite relaxing and fun. You can also rent bikes there if that's your thing. Have some fudge, too - they're famous for it!

That's one thing we're going to do is the horse & buggy tour, it looks like a neat thing to do. I may just break down and try the fudge, I've been losing weight and try to stay away from things like that...but maybe one piece or in my case maybe one bite...my DH has gotten used to giving me a bite of something because I won't eat a whole piece of stuff.

Be sure and plan on having brunch at The Grand Hotel....it is wonderful! It is somewhat pricey but very worth the money and a brunch ticket also allows you to tour the hotel at your leisure and spend time sitting and rocking on the veranda enjoying the breathtaking view and that was a lot of fun. The Grand Hotel is where they filmed the romantic movie "Somewhere in Time" with Christopher Reeves and Jane Seymour. There are tons of fudge shops there so you'll really be "tempted". One thing you will notice is that you need to be very conscious of where you're walking as horses are the only form of transportation allowed on the Island and you know what that means.
