Yes, they were on the Today show recently (maybe last Friday) to make this announcement. The youngest is 9 months old. The family is also filming a new program for the Discovery Health Channel. I guess TV appearances are part of the way the family supports itself.

Actually, they are very well off. When first married, they worked hard, lived frugally, saved every penny they could, & invested very wisely--mostly in real estate, I think.

That is correct...and they are debt free -- something quite remarkable in this day and age for any family, but especially one of that size!

They also get a nice little chunk of cash from doing the TV specials on Discovery Health!

I would love to be a fly on the wall of their home and see if they are all as cool, and calm as they act on tv. They all seem to be very well mannered children. She never seems to get stressed.

I think there was 13 or 14 in my dad's family, I can't remember, one or two died as infants, 2 bedroom house, kitchen, living room, and bathroom, one out building the older kids took turns sleeping in, summer they slept outdoors.

when I was a kid and all of them would show up with their kids we'd have a huge family get together.... imagine what 18 at one time with families will be like in a few years.

Do they just not believe in birth control or do they actually want that many children!?

I can't believe how attractive she still looks after having so many children! It's amazing! That whole family is amazing... I guess if anybody should have that many kids it should be them, raising those kids with Godly values like they are and setting good examples like being debt free and not counting on society to take care of you.

My dad had 12 in his family and they were all close and the ones still living still are. And they talk about all the fun they had growing up with so many to play with. And it seems often very big families are close-nit.

But me personally, I had three and that was quite enough for me!

I believe they want that many children. And I say Bravo to them!

They apparently are raising them up to be great kids, and young adults. They can afford them, so good for them.

I would not want to be one of the kids - I think they are made to grow up too fast, taking responsibility for their younger siblings. I want/wanted my kids to come to ME when they're hurt/need help ... not to a sibling, and I want to have time for them. With 18 kids, all so close together, it's going to be impossible for Mom to be available to them effectively, and some kids are just needier, leaving those who aren't basically raising themselves.

I realize it's the life they know, and they seem to be okay with it, but the kids in the sect in Texas were okay with the life they were living too.

My Great Grandma had 13...her last son was born when her eldest daughter, My Grandmother, had my Dad.
Then, with the way things were back in the olden days, some of the grandchildren went back to the farm and had to stay for a few years...HUGE close knit family. They all grew up to be super people, all the men went to WWII ...7 Sons......all the Grandsons went to war as well...all at the same time. The entire family was involved in ''praying them home''.............I think they all were great...they all were intelligent, and ended up in California...(they wanted out of cold NO MN)....and they all attained a lifestyle of affluence. They were so poor when they were kids, working on the farm, milking the cows, they said they were determined to make it.

I remember when I was little all my Great Uncles and Aunts had swimming pools...hehehe..I was so impressed.

None of them had big families...but they missed alot of their youth with husbands or being gone themselves to war. I think the most kids anyone had was 3.

I would NOT WANT 18 or 13 children...I wanted one...OOPS...came two more at one time...........but, I think my kids are happy to have each other. Having twins is difficult, or it was for me, because I felt I was cheating one or the other, or little Lizzie...cause there was no way to hold them all at one time.............but, they grew up just fine with the way we did it.

I think that if a family chooses to be large, there has to be some benefit, and some drawbacks.........and, that is their business, NOT MINE.

I don't advocate birth control for anyone else ...nor do I advocate abortion for anyone else......nor would I suggest knowing if a large or small family is good for someone else.......this is their personal choice, and NONE OF MY BUSINESS.
