A week of Branson food

Just spent 7 nights in Branson and 4 of us ate out every meal. Just a few comments. Had catfish and ribs a number of times and have to say the ribs at Shorty Smalls and the catfish at Fall Creek Steak House was by far the best. Sorry to have to say but we had a really rude waiter, but the catfish made me a forgiving person.

There has been a lot of bad press on Steak and Shake's service. We had light lunches there 3 times. Twice by Celebration City and once downtown. I have to say I've not had better service in Branson. Maybe things got fixed.

We all agreed that Cracker Barrel can't be beat for breakfast, although we had a pretty decent buffet at Dockers. Along with the good there is also the bad. We tried the buffet at Peppercorns and was really disappointed with the food selection, the appearance of the food, the taste of the food and the service. Won't be going back there.

Had a great lunch at Hard Luck Diner. Was suppose to be a light lunch, but the 1/2 lb burger and large malt ruined that thought. The entertainment really enjoyable.

Does the picture taking bother anyone else? I believe we were asked at all noon meals, except Steak and Shake, and all evening meals to have our picture taken. I really would like to be left alone when dining. It was almost like the people who were pushing the free show tickets.

I enjoyed reading your review! The only time we have been asked to have our picture taken is at Shorty Small's. We agreed and bought the key chains two different years. As much as they asked you..yeah I would be displeased.

I don't ever remember being asked to have our picture taken at a restaurant, except on the Branson Belle. I don't think I would appreciate trying to eat and fending off photographers.

We had a small group there last week for lunch. It was very good...the lunch specials are a nice addition to the menu. Several had the catfish and said it was the best they've had in Branson. The server told us it is fresh, and no skin, evidently some places serve it with skin on....... the salad bar, while not much choice, was fresh and everything good. Chicken Fried steak and mashed with gravy were, good, the green beans exceptional. Desert choices were incredible. Cheesecake (chocolate) large slabs.....totally sinful....I had blackberry cobbler...(surprise, surprise) with Ice Cream....incredibly good...enough for 2 or 3 to share...but I didn't..........I would recomend Fall Creek Steakhouse.
We also visited The Plantation and Peppercorns the week before.....very disappointing. I would not return. Not very clean and at The Plantation one of the cashiers made numerous trips from the cash register to the buffet and salad bar stirring and moving food items with no gloves or handwashing. Also he had cuts and scratches on his arms that in my opinion should have been covered by long sleeves if you are working around food and in public. The whole experience was not very good and it won't be repeated by me.

I do agree that picture taking during a meal can become annoying. We were at Fall Creek just last week and told the photographer we were locals (which we are) and she began to reason with us as to why, even as locals, pictures are a good thing to have. First of all, please let me eat when I am in a restaurant dining with my family on my lunch hour. Second, when I say no please let my "no" be no.

I hate it when they leave the skin on the fish.........that is just gross.......to me anyway.........now about this chocolate cheesecake.......mmmmmmmmmmmm!!!!!!! We may have to try Fall Creek Steak House........do they still have the Roll thrower????????? Sorry you didn't have a good experience at the other two places.........I have never been to them......but wondered about going because the buildings are so pretty.......anyway, last summer when I was planning our Aug Branson Trip I called Peppercorns to see what their hours were........whoever answered was VERY RUDE to me........... I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt though and just figured they were real busy...........but still yet Zach........they were RUDE ........to ME!!!!!!!!!

Yeah...I think that guy with the cuts/scratches used to be one of the hatchet throwers out at the lumberjack show...

btw...I had some guy come up to me at the show today...and say are you the Branson Bluesman? First time that's ever happened...I figured it was you. But when I found it wasn't, I was wondering if the guy wanted to punch me or something...

How many bad reviews do places have to get before folks get the message? Every place has an occasional bad day but some places have bad days almost every day and maybe an occasional good day.
