The Ozark Folk Center in....

Mountain View, AR??

Has anyone been to it? If so, how did you like it. We're thinking of going over for the Folk Festival in 2 weeks.

Here's the link to their site...

http://www.ozarkfolkcenter.com/

I would appreciate any feedback on it.

Thanks!

Our family has been there before, we really enjoyed it! We liked the town of Mountain View and the Ozark Folk Center. Mountain View has some cute little shops. We toured an old mill that was in town also. The cave was great. Can't remember the name of it right now. Seems like it was run by the national park service. We camped while there, so I did all the cooking in our camper and didn't get to eat out. I have other relatives that really enjoy Mountain View and go all the time.

Have to warn you though, it is reallllly slower paced than Branson!

Thanks Kayokla!

We have never been to the Ozark Folk Center and were wanting information on it.

Although, we've been to Mountain View many times, they have a fantastic flee market we've gone to. Plus we have stayed in cabins on the lake. I also have a great uncle that is an 'Herbalist' in the mountains just south of their.

The Ozark Folk Center sounds like something we would definately enjoy going to.

Thanks again for your information!

The way I remember the Ozark Folk Center is that it was set up with shops all along the pathway and demonstrating craftmen in each of the shops. We didn't go to any of the evening music at the Folk Center.

Are you confusing Mountain Home with Mountain View? There are 2 major lakes near Mountain Home but there isn't a lake in Mountain View. The White River and Sylamore Creek are near Mountain View.

I live less than 30 minutes from Mountain View and the OFC; DH and I had season tickets to the OFC for years but gave them up 3 years ago when work travel for both of us increased dramatically.

The Folk Festival is fun with a parade down Main Street on Saturday morning at 10; free music on the Square Thursday - Sunday. Usually the OFC has FREE admission to the craft grounds during the day during the festival and runs a shuttle bus from the park to downtown MV. However, there is a ticket charge for the evening music at the OFC; all of the music is acoustic and generally dates prior to 1945 (folk, country, bluegrass, gospel).

Is worth the 20 minute trip from MV to Blanchard Springs Caverns and Recreation area administered by the US Forest Service. The cave tour is fantastic (about $10 a person). The hike to the Springs is free, and very easy and beautiful. There's a campground, too, on the creek.

If you haven't made lodging reservations, you need to get it done NOW. Area campgrounds generally fill up, too.

Hope you go and have a great time! I'll probably be somewhere in the crowd to see the parade.

I love going to the Folk Festival in Mtn. View every year. I usually go on Friday in order to be able to look around when there are a few thousand people less than there will be on Saturday. Free live music all around the town square year around, indoors if bad weather. The crafts shops are FREE the Friday-Saturday-Sunday during the Folk Festival. Blanchard Springs Caverns are touted by a lot of reviewers as the 2nd best to visit in the US behind Carlsbad. Its always a great atmosphere.

PS. The best pizza to be found in Arkansas, as voted by the Arkansas Times for many years is found at Tommy's Pizza, located just a block off of the square.

Thanks Biscuitcreek, you're right, I was confusing Mountain Home with Mountain View. We've been to Mountain Home several times. BUT...We've only been 'through' Mountain View once and that was years and years ago.

Thanks for all the information about the festival..and the other activities in the area. Sounds like a great time.

If you have never been to Mt. View, it is a really neat little town and you must go there at least once. It kinda has a Mayberry atmosphere to it. It's really lost in time. The folk center is nice to go to depending on what groups are there performing. I have been before and the talent was really good and I have been when it was not so good. It is very old time folk music.
Our favorite thing to do is to go the the square at night and listen to the different groups perform. Anyone can come and bring there instrument and find a group to play with. Sometimes there are 15 or 20 different groups playing all around the square.
You will never find another place like Mt. View. It's a real gem. We have been going there for 30 years at least once a year.
Blanchard Springs is where we like to camp. Thats where the caverns are that someone mentioned.
These are really beautiful caverns to tour. It's about a 15 minute drive from Blanchard Springs to Mt. View. There is also an RV park right in Mt. View called White River RV park that we stay at when we dont want to make the drive from Blanchard. It's a very relaxing getaway and is only a couple hours drive from Branson.

We have been camping on the White River back in 2001 and had a great time. We also went to the caves and it was really neat. I would love to go back again sometime and I would LOVE to go to the Ozark Folk center....let us know how you liked it and have a great time Stars...

You have go to Tommy's if you are coming to Mtn. View! I love their Pizza! The best ever. The is also a show called White River Hoedown that is popular. I have never been. If you are planning on coming during folk fest it will be very crowed. We always avoid town during the fest.

We love to spend a weekend in Mt. View. There are several B&B in town that are very reasonable and a couple motels, but if you enjoy camping then the best campground I have ever experience in at the Blanchard Spring Caverns - http://www.fs.fed.us/oonf/ozark/recreation/caverns.html. They are sight on the river and great for swimming. The cave tour is also here and is the best tour I have even been on. They do say it is handicap accessible, but man I would think it would be tough.

We also really like the Ozark Folk Center - http://www.ozarkfolkcenter.com/ . It is a little village of shops and as you go from shop to shop, you see the craftspeople at work. They have great stories, but also love to answer your questions. We really like it. Of course you can buy anything that are making, and it is very affordable. They do have a snack shop in the village, but they also have a very good sit-down place on the grounds. They also have cabins "sorta" for nightly rental. Clean, but nothing special. They are older, but it is a fun setting. We have done the show at the OFC, but it is not our thing so much. So we usually go to the show in town. Cash's White River Hoedown - http://www.whiteriverhoedown.com/ is one of best. It is soooooo funny.

I sound like a commercial, but we really do love to get away to Mt. View. They have a website - http://www.ozarkgetaways.com/index.html. Let us know if you have a good time.
