SDC BAF $10 & $15 coupons upgradeable!

We went to SDC this past Sunday (3/30) and inside the SDC paper you get there was a full page ad for upgrading your ticket. It also applies to the BAF coupons for those who ordered their season passes too late to get free ones.

We ordered season passes for DH and DD, but planned on using one of the BAF coupons for me. Before we left the park, we took my ticket (which we paid $15) and upgraded it for $35 for a season pass. So my season pass cost me a total of $50! I couldn't believe it!

While this doesn't seem quite fair to those who bought full priced season passes (DH's pass was nearly $70, while DD's was $59, purchased in February), it was a nice surprise.

So, for those of you who will be using these coupons, be aware that you can upgrade them for season passes.

Wow, that's neat. I guess, maybe, not as many season passes have been bought this year?

I have the free passes and, I purchased 6 passes but didn't get one for my husband this year. Wonder if I can get him one for $35?? I can't believe that will continue. Maybe next year I'll only order 3 passes???

The upgrade is only valid on regular admission tickets and the BAF's that are coupons ($10 or $15), not free admission BAFs. So technically any "pass" using the coupons would ultimately cost $45 or $50 ($35 + the coupon price).

So if we go this summer and buy one day admission passes we can upgrade to a season pass if we think we are coming back this year to SDC? You say the upgrade is $35, is this for adult tickets and what is the upgrade price for children tickets?

The upgrade price is for Adults, Children or Seniors, plus tax. However, the upgrade has to be done the same day you're visiting.

I think though, the price of a one day's admission + the upgrade would be more than if you bought a season pass to start off. A one day ticket costs about $50 for an adult, so add $35 and that's more than what a season pass costs (about $70 for an adult).

The best benefit is if you have one of these coupons to enter, then upgrade it before you leave.

Thought I would also mention the ad also says you can upgrade to a 3 Park All-City Season Pass for $80+tax for adult, child, or senior.

At bottom, it says:

All upgrades must be completee before you leave the park and are only valid for the person visiting the park today. Offer valid starting March 20; refunds are not available on previously purchased tickets. Bring A Friend Free tickets cannot be upgraded. ALL PRICES SUBJECT TO TAX, AND MAY CHANGE AT ANY TIME WITHOUT NOTICE.

Upgrades Available At The Front Gate.

Wow. Seems to me, a pretty big insult to those who purchase their tickets early in the year (November/December) to charge them more than someone who waits and buys their tickets late.

Next year, instead of buying the 12 adult and 1 child ticket my folks purchased it'd make more sense to buy the child ticket in Feb/March, and use the $10 coupon, and upgrade the entire family? It would save them about $250 for the year. YIKES! (It's been a Christmas gift for many years past, maybe the season passes need to be in an Easter Basket?)

I thought it seemed a little wrong too, but we weren't sure if we'd be coming back during one of the designated "coupons dates" in the future or not, so it was just a nice surprise to us. However, you have to have a ticket for each upgrade. You can't use one coupon to upgrade more than one person. When we paid for my $15 admission, I received a regular one day ticket. I then took that ticket to the upgrade booth upon leaving and was able to purchase 1 season pass. I thought it'd seem more appropriate to have the upgrade price the same the pass price, less the $10 or $15 you already paid for that day's admission (to be fair to those who bought their passes early). We bought 2 season passes in February, 1 adult, 1 child, for full price (about $130 for both).

Who's to know if they'll even do this next year or change the way they do it?

Agreed.

Y'all wanna ask SDC for some money back? I will if you will, and we can point out this discussion.

Giving those cheapies could be an expensive decision if all those who paid the full price by buying early find out.

No offense to SDC, but whoever made this decision screwed up.

I emailed SDC today - and learned this...

We are infact offering a promotion right now that any admission ticket other then the FREE Bring A Friends can be upgraded to a SDC season pass for 35.00 plus tax or to a All City Season Pass for 80.00 plus tax. This is a limited time offer and must be done before leaving that day.

Thank you for your interest in Silver Dollar City Properties.
See you soon.

I think they are really trying to help make up for the opening day/weekend fiasco so they are trying to come up with any promotion that can possibly redeem themselves and get more people in thhe gate.

I talked to a guy today during a survey SDC is doing (more details about that in my Kudos to SDC thread on the attractions board) who said to keep watching the website and sometime during Kidsfest and possibly even WorldFest that HQ has told the employees they will be listing some promotions to get folks in the gate for free with a paid admission or nice discounts of some sort. Anyone going anytime soon he said to keep checking about every week or two and watch for those!

Condensed version from another thread: SDC not prepared for opening day. Expected about 6000 -- 7000 folks and had about 16,000. Traffic terrible -- people spent hours trying to get in. Not enough employees to run transportation, run rides, staff food places, etc. Lines for everything long, few shows. Still had some of the same problems the next week of Spring Break Days. All that equals some unhappy SDC visitors.
