I peeked into some of the other shops too on 4th street, and OH SO NICE. Enjoy the pictures.....I promised them, and so here they are. Hugs. Tomorrow morning, David Plank, the reknowned painter/sketcher of birds, will be signing his prints. A very fine time to be had when the artist is there.
I saw the prints today, JUST GEORGEOUS. http://www.missouriwildlifeartists.com/plank.htm |

If I could have sent the big sign in that one picture, I'd have done it---- "Don't Squat With Your Spurs On'', .............just too big to send ![]() ![]() ![]()

Cheesy, are there any motels/hotels/B&B's in Salem? I'd love to come over and spend a couple of days, shopping and seeing the town.

I don't have information regarding B & B's...and what they are like but I pass the Holiday Inn Express every day...its fairly new.
Motels-Hotels-Resorts Holiday Inn Express 1200 S. Hwy 19 Salem, MO 65560 Ph: 573-729-4700 or 866-729-9598 Fax:573-729-7976 E-Mail: hiexsalem@embarqmail.com Web: http://www.hiexpress.com/salemmo http://www.salemmo.com/directory/business/lodging.htm This Motel/Hotel is just south of the 19/32/72 junction....very convenient. There is only one restaurant that I like to eat in, called MY PLACE, and its off the beaten path, but easy to find on the corner of Center and Pershing....the rest are just okay...MY PLACE rivals Zenos in Rolla. And the prices are much lower. Salem is very small...less than 5000 people, and compact and old, and FULL OF FAST FOODS and GAS Stations............lol. This shop is just west of the Dent Co Court House Square on the main street, which is 4th street. You are not far from the Current River here, and Montauk State Park, where they have Montauk Lodge Montauk State Park Salem, MO 65560 Ph: 573-548-2434 Fax:573-548-2532 I think the restaurant/lodge is closed during the winter. Easiest way to get here from there, is Hwy 60 to Cabool, to Houston, to Licking, turn right/east and take 32 all the way to Salem. |

The Holiday Inn Express sounds fine, to me. I'll have to get with DH and "schedule" an over-nighter...that would be a fun place to go.

Well the open house weekend went well.......
There was a great craft fair at the old city hall.... Outdoor sales and things...everywhere................... Son emailed as they ''crashed'' for the night.....tomorrow is a day off...to rake leaves and clean house.........roflol. He said it was a successful weekend,.........making all the work worth it.... They now will start decorating their beautiful home, cause usually its in that ''deal'' where people go around and look at houses and decorations...... I do not have this kind of drive or ambition.........ekkkkkkkkkkk. mErRy ChRiStMaS kids.

Wish I could have made it down to Salem this week end! But no deer yet, so that's still the main objective for DH!

I've moved this to ''Other Destinations'', a more appropriate forum.
This morning, quiet little Salem, is buried in big Oak Leaves, and they are wet. It is typically a November day, in a typical old MO town. I'm very proud of my Daughterinlaw and Son, who work so hard to prepare for the Christmas Season in their Store and in their Home........THEY LOVE CHRISTMAS. I have told Sivvie, that she should have a room in her home, that is Christmas, 365 days a year. Sivvie truly has Christmas in her Heart, 365 days a year. |

I realize this is an old post...but if anyone is looking for a bed and breakfast in the Salem area this is a nice one:
http://www.riverbirchlane.us/ We stayed there quite a few years ago when we were in Salem for a funeral. My Mom and Dad had the upstairs, DH and I were on the lower level (the two levels are totally seperate). The upstairs had a nice large bath and a comfortable bed.. all newly renovated. Ours had a deep soaking tub with stone all along the back side. Very cool! I think there was a small kitchen, but it's been a while.. I may be wrong. The breakfast in the morning was wonderful and the owners were very nice people. The only problem we had was late in the evening my Dad decided to build a fire in the woodstove and there was a hole in the flue...so it got very smoky. In fact..I wasn't sure I'd wake up in the morning - it was that bad! Oh, the owners did have cats too and my Dad sat in a chair that had been occupied by one. He left with a bunch of cathair on his suit pants. We had a sticky roller which took care of it. It didn't bother me since I'm a cat person, but it might bother some folks (especially those with allergies).Anyhow, I'd stay there again, just wouldn't start a fire and I'd watch where I sat. ![]() I have an aunt that lives in Salem still. My grandma lived there for many years. Nice little town. |
