Is Branson ATV Friendly?

My Wife, Daughter & I enjoy trail riding with our ATVs. Are there any trails around close to Branson? We would like to just cruise around & look at the scenery, not any motocrossing.

We ride ATV's in Branson, just not inside the city limits. There is a great place for ATV's, in the Mark Twain Forest, off of Hwy 65, somewhere around the Walmart (in Ozark) exit...anyone know the name of this town. The forest is beautiful, with miles and miles of motorcycle/atv trails.

I found it. It's Chadwick. Here's the link: http://www.fs.fed.us/r9/forests/mark...ites/chadwick/

That's cool. Not quite sure I want to take along our UTV. Maybe next time that we'll be down for a week we'll give this a try.

Thanks for the info.

What's a 'UTV'? I've seen that phrase often lately and not familiar with it!

in this link there is a link to the forest service website with specifically atv trails in the area already listed. Chadwick is just east of the ozark walmart exit.

if you are ridin' 4x4's you are allowed here too:

Chadwick area is a local favorite - but be aware that it's about 15 miles and 25 minutes from Ozark.

chadwick

We have been to chadwick several times. The trails are NOT wide enough for a "side by side" atv if thats what you ment by UTV. there is only 2 fire roads you can go down with a side by side (where 2 people sit side by side like a polaris ranger or yamaha rhino).

The trails are very rocky. Its fun, but can get pretty rough in sections. From Ozark you go east on 14 to sparta, then southeast on 125 to the town of Chadwick. Stop at the convience store there named "Kay's" and you can get maps of the trails and permits. Permits cost $5/day per atv or $35 for a 1 year permit.

You definatly need a map! there are 125 miles of trails marked easy, intermediate and expert. You dont want to go down the wrong trail or you could find yourself at the bottom of a hill with no good way to get out. It would also be easy to get lost in there, some of the trails are not well marked, so you have to pay attention as you ride so you know where you are at.

Never ride the trails by yourself. If you have an accident back in the woods it could be a long time before someone might come by to help you. Same way if you break down, it could be a several mile walk out through some rough country to get back to your truck.

If anyone is intrested I could give more details on how to get to the trails, where to park and what trails are good for beginners. You can email me at eclaw6185@hotmail.com
