Tournament of Roses Parade

we are going to the tournament of roses parade this year! whoo hoo!

however, i have never been to the area before and we have a couple of choices of optional day tours in addition to the crystal cathedral, bandfest, and float decorating. the optional tours we can choose from. . .

1.) hollywood, beverly hills, sunset strip, rodeo drive, venice beach

2.) mission of san juan capistrano, del rio, laguna beach city tour

AND, if there is something else in the area that would be fun to do instead of or in addition to one of those choices, please let me know!

we will have one extra day to plan for something and i had thought of universal studios tour, but i am just kinda overwhelmed since i just don't have a clue about this area.

we will be staying in newport beach. thanks for any help you can give me!

Tour 1 gives you mostly a driving tour of the various locations, the
wonderful houses, owned in most part by actors/directors, etc.
Be aware that most of the "famous" homes are behind walls or
bushes or trees and can not be seen in any detail.

tour 2 gives you a wonderful drive down the coast, to the
Mission at San Juan and a nice tour of the mission.

Mostly it depends on what your interests are as to which
you would enjoy the Most. I lived there for 48 years and
took all the tours at one time or another, and enjoyed
them all.

Are you volunteering to work on one of the floats? You can
you know, for a few hours, or days. What ever fits your
schedule. A chance of a lifetime.

You will have a terrific time! You aren't by any chance taking the Lutheran Hour/Petal Pushers tour - http://www.petalpushers.org/2008/tour/Flyer2008.pdf - are you? That tour company is out of Newport Beach, and we stayed at the Marriott Fashion Island.

I was on this tour last year and had a great time. One day is spent in volunteering time decorating the floats.

In free time, I really enjoyed Balboa Island and the Newport Bay cruise from the Fun Zone Boat Company. I took 2 separate 45 min. cruises (not much was duplicated on them), but they do offer 90-minute ones too.
