Kansas City -- Schlitterbahn Water Resort

I'm so excited! They had the groundbreaking ceremony today for the Schlitterbahn waterpark resort that is coming in here in Kansas City.

This is going to be AMAZING. I've seen Travel Channel's segment on the Texas locations of Schlitterbahn, and this is going to be like a super-Schlitterbahn.

The resort/park is going to cover 300 acres and is going to have hotels, shops, and tons of attractions.

They've put up renderings of the "Vacation Village" here:

This is going to be so cool. They have this really awesome lazy river-type system that is incredibly extensive. They're also going to be building really cool treehouse-type lodging rooms, and they're also going to make parts of the resort with retractable roofing to make it a year-round attraction.

This is a huge development not just for Kansas City, but also for the surrounding region. This is going to be a destination attraction, and people coming here from other parts of the country should hopefully also look into what else Kansas and Missouri have to offer.

So, anyone been to any of the Texas Schlitterbahns? Any cool trip stories?

Joy

Is it still scheduled to be open for the 2009 season? We're planning on spending part of our 09 vacation there!

Yup. They had at first planned to roll it out in phases, opening part of it next year then the next in '09. But then they decided they'd make a bigger splash by debuting it all in one go, so they're aiming for Summer 2009 to open.

Yes...been to the one in San Marcos, Texas...it is big and alot of fun...seasonal because the river is cold all the time...and watch out for the rains because it can flood....remember in the news about all the San Antonio floods.....also, it's very very busy and crowded....so, maybe with the one going up in Kansas City, they can share those crowds!

Yes, I've been to the one outside of San Marcos in New Braunfels and it is definetely a mega water park. It is three parks and with your paid admission you have access to all three parks. They run trams to and from as not to have to walk. You are given a wrist band to come and go as you please. The admission is not that expensive compared to WW. When we went a couple years ago it was less than $20 a person. They also allow you to bring in coolers. The major lines were for the master blaster and the rides seen on the travel channel. IF you intend to ride the master blaster be prepared to wait no less than 1 hour.

They also have the Master Blaster ride at the Kalahari Indoor Waterpark in the Wisconsin Dells. We are excited to try out the new park in KC when it opens. We have been to the Dells during the week in the Fall and Spring and didn't even have to wait in line to ride the Master Blaster, as fast as we could walk back up the stairs we could get on it!
