Dinner before the Passion Play

My friend and I will be in Branson for a week and one day will be going to Eureka Springs. I noticed that the Passion Play offers a buffet. Is that any good at all?

Or would you recommend eating dinner elsewhere first?

Any good suggestions of what to see for a one afternoon/day trip to Eureka Springs?

Thanks,
Sojourner

Maybe eat first

It has been several years since we ate the buffet at the Passion Play in
Eureka Springs so this may not be the most up to date comment. Maybe someone who has eaten there more recently has a different opinion and of course it could be better now.l However, when we ate there, while it was not disgusting, it was not very appetizing. We have not really wanted to eat there again.

While we have personally never eaten at the Passion Play Buffet, 6 of our friends did last Fall. They said the same thing as lsheagney just said. They will not eat there again either.

There are just too many really nice places with great food in Eureka to not have a good dinner.

I'm a sales rep and am in Eureka once a month. I've heard the locals recommend the Roadhouse for great burgers. One of these times when I overnight there I'm going to try it out.

If you want good italian - go to DeVito's downtown. It is awesome and I've never had a bad meal there -- in fact, we ate there before the Passion Play when a bunch of us went down a couple of years ago. In fact, my hubby jokes that we plan our trips to Eureka around DeVito's schedule (they are only open for dinner I think).

We usually do the combo package at the Passion Play that includes the play, Holy Land, museums and dinner at the buffet. Is it not the worlds best buffet, but we do enjoy it each time. I would not think twice about going back. Plus it is great because you can get there early for the best parking and have dinner.

I lived in Eureka for three years and heard many complaints about the GPP's buffet. And, in it correct to say that Eureka has SOOO many WONDERFUL locally owned restaurants to eat in. I highly reccomend Sparky's Roadhouse for great burgers, enchiladas, chicken, etc....GREAT PLACE! Devito's or Ermilio's for excellent Italian dining. Cafe Santa Fe is a really good tex-mex place.

Thanks so much everyone for the great responses. It seems really consistent that we should look elsewhere for dinner. I so appreciate your comments. Our tickets are just for the play, not for the whole thing.

I loved the suggestions for Italian and Mexican as I wasn't quite sure what to do about those in Branson, so perhaps it's better in Eureka Springs. The one thing we've decided is to go with local food eateries for the week rather than the big chains which you can get other places.

If I'm not eating at the Passion Play, what time do I need to be there to get decent parking? I'll have to figure out when to eat to not be rushed on either end.

This is such an awesome forum! Thanks again.

Well DeVito's is right downtown and really just down around the corner from the Play. You can probably mapquest it. On italian in Branson - We used to eat at Rocky's and the last time we were there it was very good. I've heard some bad reports, but then again, everywhere has bad nights/days. So I'm not sure about that.

You'll like the Passion Play. I've seen it twice. I also took the Holy Land Tour several yrs ago when I was there @ Passion Play. The Holy Land Tour is neat.

Unless the Buffet quality has improved dramatically this year, I would say eat a big Lunch somewhere else and then have a snack at the snack bar on the grounds before the Play.

Good Places to eat in Eureka Springs

I go to Eureka Springs at least once a year and two of my favorities are
The Bavarian Inn Restaurant and the Autumn Breeze. The Bavarian Inn Restuarant offers German/Chech food including wonderful Wienerschnizel. If you like that kind of food, you'll love this place. The Autumn Breeze has a more eclectic type menu with fish, steak, pasta etc. I have never had a bad meal there and it is nestled in the trees with large windows making it a very scenic dining experience.

If Italian sounds good, I agree with another poster that De Vito's is good. You might also consider Ermillio's. It is on the trolley route on the Historic loop. The food is excellent there.
