Branson's Skyscraper has a little taken off the top...

Last night, at their regularly scheduled meeting, after about 90 minutes of citizen input and board discussion, the Branson Board of Aldermen voted, by a six to zero (6-0) margin, to reduce the size of a proposed 25 story skyscraper to 12 stories.

Complete story here:

Very interesting. I'll have to check with the people wanting to do this to get their take on this. I had a feeling this would happen, but you never know until it is put on the table.

My opinion,..... What a shame. Sorry, but I think this would have really added more class and more pazazz to Branson. 12 stories is not much bigger than some of our existing hotels. I would not be surprised if the developer backs out on the deal all together. I hate to use this term in this forum, but it really did fit in with the "New" Branson.

I am glad they decided to go smaller. I like looking at the mountains if I want to look at skyscrapers I would go to New York.

But could the top grown back on Branson's Skyscraper?

Now I know we don't bet here in Branson but what are the odds that if the developer does a feasibility study, and that study shows that they need a 25 story building to make it financially feasible, that the board won't change their minds and give it to them? Somehow, in my heart of hearts, I just don't believe this issue is over yet.

There are pros and cons to it having 25 floors.. I like being high up for the view...But..with that said....It can change the quaintness of the area...And make it feel over grown....

Oh trust me -- the developer probably won't back out of the deal. They might make amends to conform to the City fathers - but I doubt it will be cancelled.

It's already been said, but I agree, this isn't over yet. There are interests South of town that would welcome the "New Branson" to thier part of the county. Branson is also moving north and building 25 stories "at" Branson doesn't necessarily mean it has to build "inside" Branson. My prediction: A Tall building(s) will come to the Branson area even if the City Fathers say no. Just wait until they "show" the money.

I think Huffman said it all in the council meeting. He quoted Walt Disney when he said We build this for "those who come" , not those that are here. Great point Huffman!!! This building would have been visible to Springfield areas. I think we need new alderman.
