You know you're from Missouri when...

Growing up in Missouri

1. You've never met any celebrities.

2. Everyone you know has been on a "Float Trip,"

3. "Vacation" means driving to Silver Dollar City, Worlds of Fun or
SIX Flags.

4. You've seen all the biggest bands ten years AFTER they were
popular..

5. You measure distance in minutes rather than miles. For example,
"Well, Webb City's only 20 minutes away."

6. Down south to you means Arkansas.

7. The phrase "I'm going to the Lake this weekend"only means one
thing.

8. You know several people who have hit a deer.

9. You think Missouri is spelled with an "ah" at the end.

10. Your school classes were canceled because of cold.

16. You know what's knee-high by the Fourth of July.

17. You see people wear bib overalls at funerals.

18. You see a car running in the parking lot at the store with no one
in it, no matter what time of day.

19. You know in your heart that Mizzou can beat Nebraska in football.
20. You end your sentences with an unnecessary preposition. Example:
"Where's my coat at?"

21. All the festivals across the state are named after a fruit,
vegetable or grain.

22. You install security lights on your house and garage and leave
both unlocked.

23. You think of the major four food groups as beef, pork, beer, and
Jell-O salad with marshmallows.

24. You carry jumper cables in your car and know that everyone else
should.

25. You went to skating parties as a kid.

26. You only own three spices: salt, pepper, and ketchup.

27. You design your kid's Halloween costume to fit over a snowsuit.

28. You think sexy lingerie is tube socks and a flannel nightie.

29. The local paper covers national and international headlines on one
page, but requires SIX pages for sports.

30. You think I-44 is spelled and pronounced "farty-far." (St. Louis
only.)

31. You'll pay for your kids to go to college unless they want to go
to KU.

32. You think that "deer season" is a National Holiday.

33. You know that Concordia is halfway between Kansas City and
Columbia, and Columbia is halfway between St. Louis

Eastern, Middle or Western Missouri soon as they open their mouth.

39. You know that Harry S Truman, Walt Disney and Mark Twain are all
from Missouri.

Versailles, California, Nevada, Houston, Cabool, Louisiana,
Springfield, and Mexico were cities in Missouri. (And they are!)

I grew up in MissourEEEE, but I can relate.

Is Bush SR a Celebrity???

Growing up, the float trip WAS vacation, and we loved it!

It's impossible to measure distance of a twisted road in miles - you either measure it in 'time' or in puke stops ~ and time is definately more appealing, especially if you're getting in the car to leave.

Going to Party Cove, means you've told your folks you were going to the lake

Note to self: do not try to deer hunt in the car, it's not good for the deer, but worse on the car. In 25 years of married life, deer are the #1 reason for insurance claims - about one every 4 years.

School use to be cancelled due to heat and cold - but these days we've got air conditioning - not in all schools, but it's more common than 30 years ago!

We don't have security lights - they'd scare away the deer BUT just this past week, as we were leaving home, dh told me to lock the back door. WHY do we lock the back door, when we enter and leave the house through the front door, which we NEVER lock???

33. You know that Concordia is halfway between Kansas City and
Columbia, and Columbia is halfway between St. Louis
and Kansas City, and the Warrenton Outlet Mall is halfway between
Columbia and St. Louis. Obviously, the author didn't realize that there is a town in Missouri which is named Halfway. It's halfway between Buffalo and Bolivar.

I don't live in Missouri, but I know and have experienced most of these on this list. I am from TN. Guess it could be "next generation" of Missouri. My dad lived in Missouri when he was a kid.

I was born and reared in MissourEEEE, too! (I cringe when I hear "Missourah"... G) Never been on a float trip and have no intention of ever doing so. I travel I-forty four (but have heard of those who've travelled "farty far") ... but I can relate to some of these.

Thanks, Sandra... that was interesting.

"What is Party Cove?"

Party Cove isn't so much a specific location, it's more of an atmosphere, where a little too much alcohol is consumed, and a few too little is worn. In my day, it was associated more with Lake of the Ozarks than TableRock or Taneycomo.

Where we live in Texas, it's known as 'drunk as a skunk at the lake'
after the Prom, or used to be! In 'our day' girls did not attend this function!

We think it's funny when YA'LL say YOU'UNS!

You know you are from Missouri when:

In March we went to visit some relatives who have moved away from Missouri. We wanted to take a "hostess gift" that they would really like, so instead of flowers or wine we took a case of Rib Crib Barbecue sauce. They were delighted.

I don't see nothing wrong with that. I'd rather have the rib crib bbq sauce than flowers or wine too!

I grew up in Nebraska and a lot of this would apply there also. However, the football stuff would have been about Oklahoma!! I've lived in Kansas for nearly 25 years now and the same stuff applies here too.
