Plane Crash..Point Lookout, Mo.
POINT LOOKOUT, Mo. -- A small plane crashed as it tried to take off on Monday morning at College of the Ozarks' M. Graham Clark Airport, killing five people, including at least one child, possibly all members of one family. The wreckage was in a ravine between the end of the runway and U.S. 65 in Hollister.
The crashed plane caught fire. Emergency crews closed U.S. 65 in both directions for about an hour as they dealt with the crash, which happened about 9:45 a.m. Taney County officials say the six-passenger plane arrived on Saturday at the College of the Ozarks from Fort Worth, Texas. It left 100-yard-long black skid marks on the runway. Investigators say that indicates the pilot tried to abort the take-off.
Emergency crews lined U.S. 65. Four of the victims died at the scene. The fifth died a short time later in a hospital in Springfield. Camille Howell, a spokeswoman for College of the Ozarks, says the relationship of the victims has not been confirmed, nor their hometowns. She said the Piper PA-32 had refueled just before take-off.
