Kayaking

Where are the best places to kayak around Branson? Would rather stay away from the high traffic boat areas

Want to stay IN Branson? Then put in just below the Table Rock dam at the Hatchery Ramp near Bella Donna, float the 8 miles to the Landing. Take out at the boat launch in Bass Pro parking lot area. But stay to the left in the river once you get close to the RV park down by the Landing, as boat traffic gets heavier at that point. For OUT of Branson, the James River Water Trail is ok. Can get low in the summer, and has snags from time to time. The Kings River in Arkansas is about an hour or so away. Same with the Osage. If you are wanting some whitewater, I think the St Francis is best and closest for that, but it's a few hours away.

The majority of that entire stretch can have high boat traffic often.
No way I would recommend it to someone that "Would rather stay away from the high traffic boat areas".
But if you must, keep to the sides, closer to the bank, and out of the boat traffic.

hope you weren't the couple in kayaks in front of the Landing yesterday afternoon around 4:30-5:00. It looked like Lake of the Ozarks with all the pontoons, bass boats, and wave runners. Some of the roughest, and most crowded waters I've seen on Taney. There they were. Without a clue about safety, bobbing up and down right smack dab in the middle of the lake. Not on either side, out of all the boat traffic like people with a brain!
Power boats were zigging, and zagging to avoid them causing even waves because they would be blocked from sight by a pontoon, and suddenly pop up right in front of you.

I saw that also. I loved all the boat traffic, great to see so many out. Including several jet skins. Seemed like a July 4th weekend...And yes, ehybin the world were the kayakers out in the middle with the power boats was beyond comprehension. If these were rentals, hopefully the business will stress the importance of NOT going to the middle, and ALWAYS staying on the sides, preferably the Landung side, to completely avoid crossing into the center of the lake. Otherwise, if this keeps up as it was yesterday, and today also, its only a matter if time before an accident occurs.

You didn't happen to see that loud, green jet bass boat did you?

One thing I wish they would do with the Kayaks is at least a bicycly flag. We have to have flags on our ATVs in the parks, and National forest trails. Why not on kayaks on waters with powerboats? Better yeat, an LED beacon. Some of those yaks are olive drab, camo, dull blue, or other colors that make them blend in with the surroundings. Then to top it off the occupant, Mr. Outdoors, has to be wearing his official tan, or green forest ranger outdoor outfit to blend in more.

Oh yes, I saw that jet boat...heard it coming before I saw it..made my heart start thumping! Love that sound! Um, well, you know how important it is to be totally camo'd while kayaking in high boat traffic lanes, right? Geez...I couldnt believe it either!

6.0 Litre Vortec with no mufflers tend to sound like that.
Too much boat traffic to get showey. Sometimes a 200' roostertail follows the Gator past the fountains.

Rides to secret fishing hot spots on Taneycomo can be arranged.
