flyfishing on taneycomo

this is a question for Bob, Gary, or Stan
I live in iowa and i use a 8'6" 7 wt rod. i do use it on taneycomo but now i like a new rod. what would you suggest? I'm thinking of a 7'0" 4wt. is that too short or light for fishing on taneycomo?

May I butt in? The three guides may not respond. It is not enough rod to fly fish Taneycomo. Of course, you can use it and it may be more fun than the 7 wt. Last week I landed a shark on a spinning outfit with 20#test. It took awhile but it was a blast. If you want a new rod that will work well on Taney get a 9' 5 wt. Your 7 wt should be ideal for Taney, especially when the water is running. I've read that 7' rods are best for small creeks that are easily wadeable. But, what I don't know would fill Taneycomo. Tight lines. I am sure whatever you use you will catch fish on Taney.

Yep, I'm with flyfishinggolfer, a 9' 5 weight is a very nice rod for Taney. I've got a little 8' 4-5 that I use in Colorado which I really prefer, but the 9 footer would be a very good choice for Taneycomo.

I use an 8 1/2 foot 5 weight most of the time but also have an 8 1/2 foot 3 weight that I use occasionally when the water is off. If I could have only one fly rod for fishing Lake Taneycomo it would be a 5 weight at least 8 1/2 feet long. God Bless.
