Bonniebrook Open House April 13, 2019

Open House Press Release

Bonniebrook Historical Society invites the public to attend the free admittance annual Open House on Saturday, April 13, 2019 from 11:00AM-4:00PM. Light refreshments served from 11:00-2:30.

Tours of the house, fine art gallery & museum reveal why Rose O’Neill was among the most notable women artists in the early 20th century. Bonniebrook is one of very few historic sites on the National Register of Historic Places that honors a woman artist! The Bonniebrook gardens and walking trails showcase Rose O’Neill’s “favorite place on earth.”

Performances

11:00-12:00 Rountree Grocery Band will perform an Old Time Circle Jam as they play fiddles, banjos & guitars.

12:00-1:00 Possum Holler Fiddlers are an inspiring group of young talented performers who participate in a program that teaches them to pass fiddle music to another generation of fiddlers.

1:00-2:30 Rountree Grocery Band – Performance Part II

11:00-2:30 Light refreshments will be served.

Exhibits

11:00-4:00 Newly acquired original O’Neill art donated from the Rose O’Neill Foundation will be displayed in the Fine Art Gallery.

11:00-4:00 BHS exhibits, “The Ozarks Inspired Art & Writings of Rose O’Neill” and “Rose Cecil O’Neill: A Woman Ahead of Her Time” will be on display in the visitor center and tour home.

11:00-4:00 Local artists exhibit and demonstrate their work.

11:00-4:00 Shirley Stone and her students will demonstrate handcrafting and identification of old lace. She has demonstrated lacemaking at county and state fairs as well as at the Frank Phillip’s Home in Bartlesville, Oklahoma and the Gilcrease Museum in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

11:00-4:00 The Society of Hillcrofters will share information about their projects of Ozarks treasures restoration.

11:00-4:00 The State of the Ozarks organization will share information about Ozarks heritage.

11:00-4:00 “The Gardens at Bonniebrook” exhibit presented by the Master Gardeners of the Ozarks shares information about research and implementation of several Bonniebrook Homestead projects led by the Master Gardeners.

11:00-4:00 White River Valley Historical Society exhibit, “Ozarks Friendships & Kindred Spirits,” is on display in the visitor center entrance foyer. Included are highlights of O’Neill friendships with Thomas Hart Benton, May Kennedy McCord, Vance Randolph, Mary Elizabeth Mahnkey, and John Neihardt.

Bonniebrook Homestead is located 9 miles north of Branson via Hwy 65. Turn east at mile marker 20.2.
