Rural Missouri
Sad to hear via e-mail that one of our favorite Missouri bands, Big Smith, will stop performing in 2012. You can still hear them tonight at Waxy O'Shea's in Branson and at Bauhaus Kaffee in Farmington Dec. 2. For more dates, including St. Louis and Kansas City, go to http://bigsmithband.com/ |

We were told this news about 1 month ago, but were told that we were 'getting insider info' and not to spread the word yet! Was not happy to learn that Big Smith would no longer be performing as we are big fans of their band. Didn't realize you were a 'fellow fan' Cheesecake!

I hate to hear this. DH and I have been Big Smith fans for quite some time.
Will definitely have to make it to at least one of their final shows. |

They will be in Blue Springs one more time in 2011 and we've got plans to attend that show. I've been wanting to share this info with you, but the person who told us about their 'retirement' told us it hadn't been announced yet, so I couldn't 'share the word'. But I knew you would be like us and not be excited about the announcement. After all, we 'met' at a Big Smith Show in Branson!

It's bitter sweet - but it makes me even happier that we got to see Big Smith at the ORielly Center 11/11/11.

I am one of those who love Big Smith and will miss seeing them on occasion.
However, I went to the Stockton Bluegrass Festival in Stockton, Missouri (about 1 hr NW of Springfield) and discovered a band with very similar energy and stage presence while playing nearly the same type of music. They are called The Hillbenders and play nationally as well as locally (Springfield, MO). They have a show at Lake Lotawana, MO on the 16th at The Canoe Club and the 17th at the Patton Alley Pub in Springfield if you are interested in checking them out. Some of you may have been familiar with the Arkamo Rangers as I think they played Waxy O'Shea's a few times. They basically reformed into this new group. If you like high energy bluegrass, you ought to check them out. http://youtu.be/LHSabNg_TcI

I agree about the Hillbenders. Lots of original songs, high energy, great vocals and instrumentation. They are playing Dec 17 at Patton Alley Pub in Springfield
