whippersnapper cookie recipe

I love reading Joanne Fluke's "Murder She Bakes" series of books.
I have her latest, "Christmas Carmel Murder" and, sure nuff, she included another Whippersnappers Cookie variation.

Like this one:
Lemon Whippersnappers

1 (18 ounce) box lemon cake mix (not with the pudding mixture, any flavor)
1 egg
4 ounces whipped topping (CoolWhip or others will do,about 2 cups)
1⁄2 cup powdered sugar

Mix cake mix, egg and whipped topping.
Chill overnight
Roll into balls (slightly smaller than ping-pong balls).
Dip in powdered sugar and place on greased baking sheet.
Bake at 350 for 10-12 minutes.

You may also try other flavors-- orange or even white cake mix are very good.

Here's another variation:

Salted Cashew and Milk Chocolate Whippersnapper Cookies

Has anyone made these cookies?
Should I go get two containers of Cool Whip?

I've decided to make these with my 8 year old Granddaughter. She loves "The Great British Baking Show" and has asked for cookbooks and baking pans for Christmas.

To successfully make the Lemon Whippers Snappers that must be chilled first, I think I will prepare a batch of dough and have it already cold before she arrives at my home so she can make the balls of dough immediately.
Then as the cookies are baking, we can make another batch of dough that she can take home to chill and bake later.
I think that will work.

Of course, that would also work to bring the chilled dough to Branson to bake later in your condo.
