Shepherd Of The Hills

Just read on facebook this is he last year for SOH outdoor theatre. I was so sad to hear that. Just loved the show although I had not been in about 3 years.

I sure hope it is not true.

It is true; the last performance is October 19. KY3 just announced it on the morning newscast.

http://www.ky3.com/news/local/shephe...w/-/index.html

We haven't been in years so since we are here in Branson we're going to try to get tickets for tomorrow night.

Reasons given are declining attendance, higher costs, health problems, uncertainty of what's going on with small businesses, etc.

It is truly the end of an era for sure. Too bad they couldn't come up with a way to do performances over special weekends (especially around the 4th of July when folks are down there). I think it is a shame that such a great venue has to shut down because of everything.

It sounds as though just the play is shutting down. Perhaps the homestead tours, etc. will continue.

It is such a part of the area's history. So sad to see it go.

So sad to see this long-time Branson "tradition" shutting down.... but the zip-lines will remain open! ( not)
Another example of "we have to do something to appeal to the younger crowd, so they will come to Branson."
I feel that the zip-line traipsing off the Inspirational Tower is disrespectful........jmo.

the krzk story states operation will cease October 19th at the end of the current season. has anyone seen or read anywhere if they will do the Christmas lights this year or will October 19th be the end of everything.

didn't really have the lights on a list of things to do this year but if this is the last time for them as well might want to make room for it.

I understand the play is the only thing that is closing. Everything else, including the homestead tours and the Christmas lights, will continue. At least that's the current plan.

From what I read on Terry Sanders information, the play is all that will close
as of October 19th. This is very sad indeed, for we have enjoyed it so many years and planned to return again. Perhaps someone will take over this part
of SOTH and continue, at least on weekends.

I wonder if the opening and success of the Sight and Sound Theater has siphoned off a significant portion of the "Large Inspirational Play" market from SOTH. With Sight and Sound you can purchase tickets without worrying about what the weather will be like.

I'm sad to see it go, as well. I suspect it has to do more with it being the same production for 59 years.

It would be wonderful if it could survive as only a special run sort of play, but I suspect trying to get staff/actors/animals for just a short run makes that plan unfeasible.

I'm so very sad to read this! : I had hoped to see it one more time. Should've done it when I was down there last week; now it's too late.

The changes that some are asking for in Branson?
Forget history, and heritage, full speed ahead with "modernization"!

Now they can use the venue for concerts featuring Miley cyrus, Nellie, Jay Z, Kanye West, or maybe a few episodes of Keeping Up with the Kardashians or Honey Boo Boo.
After all, to survive, Branson has to move into the 21st Century!...........OR NOT!
