Trout beads...Anybody use them?
Don't know how long this lure has been around in fly fishing, but it does sound interesting. It can be adapted to spin fishing by using it under a float with a small split shot added.
Basically it is imitating a single egg drifting down the stream during spawn. A glass or plastic bead with a hole through it is tied, or pegged to the line. Then a bare hook added an inch or two below the bead. The idea is that trout are such voracious eaters of the eggs that they just suck it up, hook and all. Then the hook usually catches them in the corner of the mouth. I have been told that the hook isn't put in the bead because they often swallow it instantly, making a safe, and healthy release difficult.

Never tried them. Sounds interesting. Who came up with it? Phil Lilley?

Started reading about them after he did one of his "One Cast" facebook videos using it. Not sure where, and when they first came about. Thinking he might have heard about it on his last trip to Alaska.
I've got an assortment of them coming. Probably give them a try around that new gravel island at the narrows when I'm down there for Thanksgiving.
