Fall Colors Drive

My daughter is a Freshman at College of the Ozarks. I'm coming down Saturday to spend the day with her. I'd like to take a drive and enjoy the fall colors. Do any of you have a route or roads you've found that have the best fall foliage?

Not sure where you are driving down from, but there are some good views along HWY 63 in the Columbia/Jefferson City area, HWY 100 out of St.Louis to I44 provides some good views, I44, HWY 65 and HWY 60 all have spots where the view of the fall foliage is good. Eureka Springs to Branson has some nice foliage right now... if you are up for a short hike, check out Dogwood Canyon or Lakeside Forest Wilderness areas

In reality, it's hard to go wrong, I haven't driven it, but would anticipate the Branson airport road would have some colorful views right now.

agree

Even the old guys in my foursome took pause on one tee, and said something like, "That sure is pretty."

If there are trees, there is color . . . all shades of brown, with an occasional red, yellow, or orange.

I played hooky for an hour this AM and drove around a bit. Probably the best color I've seen in the 12 years we have been here. Pretty much any hillside or ravine you look at will be spectacular. Two items will make it 50% better.
Bright sunlight and color enhancing glasses.
Check it out soon, lots of leaves coming down.

Very windy, though, and our maple has lost 1/2 it's leaves just today.
One of the best ones I can remember over the past 15 years coming down here/living here. I think the rain helped tremendously. Some of the bluffs on table rock are spectacular reflecting on the water.

Yup, the trees surrounding the lake are even prettier.

For the OP, the Scenic Overlook on 165, not far from COO, would be a good viewing spot.

Yes, the ozark mountain highway is looking great. Only about 7 miles of stress free driving with lots of fall eye candy. Enjoy it while you can. If you drive it going west toward SDC on the weekend, be sure to exit in the right lane even if you intend to turn left or you will be snarled in SDC traffic depending on the time of day.

Just got back from Branson and had some fall drives in the area. East of Branson the Glade Top trail in the Mark Twain National Forest is nice (don't recommend driving on Saturday or Sunday) and 160 between Forsyth and Theodosia had some nice color. Also driving from Branson to Cassville there was some very nice color in the Mark Twain National Forest and around Roaring River State Park.

There are some stunning trees in the cemetery near Holiday Hills/across from Cross Creek shopping center.

Thank you so much for all the ideas! I hope the leaves can stay on the trees for just a little while longer!

We'll be coming to Branson for our first Christmas season trip on Nov. 16. Will the fall colors still be around by then or will all the leaves be gone?

I wish we could be there to make some of those drives y'all are discussing. Enjoy!

I think of Springfield as being North of Branson so we are a bit ahead of the Season and the reds and oranges and yellows and golds of the leaves are awe inspiring today.
