High Water and Fishing Lake Taneycomo

Following all this rain of late, if you plan to fish Lake Taneycomo for the next several weeks you'll want to have a boat. Table Rock Dam will be running near capacity for the next few weeks until they get Table Rock Lake drawn back down below 914. It's currently at 918.1. You can rent boats at Lilley's Landing for fishing upper Lake Taneycomo. Fly fishermen should drift fish with egg patterns or cast to the bank with streamers like the Wooly Bugger. Spin fishermen should try small white jigs, shad pattern jigs or crankbaits, or Rainbow pattern Countdown Rapalas. Below Fall Creek, of course, bait is legal and nightcrawlers and Power Bait work well.

That's interesting even to a non-fisherman, like me. Thanks.

So, how long do you think it will take to get the water levels back to "normal" if we don't get more rain? I drove around Christian/Webster/Greene counties this w/end and it seems like all the low water streams are still full, no longer overflowing, but full and running steady - the ground is saturated, and althought we've not gotten rain in the last 48 hours, the creeks don't seem to be lacking any.

First of all, let me say the forecast calls for more rain.

Second, without more rain it takes a solid month of generating power on 4 generators at TRD to drop the lake level 4'...at least.

Also, just heard from Phil Lilley that he saw tons of threadfin shad up by the dam today on Taneycomo. That means they're coming through the dam. The trout go nuts on them. That means it's a good time to throw white marabou jigs, microjigs, etc. If you can tie in a bit of flash that helps too.
