Moon River Theatre up for auction

Sadly, no surprise here based on the way it has been operated.

So what happens if it doesn't sell at auction?

Almost always, whoever is holding the note on the property retains it and tries to sell it again, lower the minimum bid, etc. Depends how desperate they are to get rid of the property. Based on the fact that they are starting with a $1.5 million bid and the property has been listed for approximately $6 million for a long time, seems like they want to get rid of it. Auction is generally a last resort.

No one wants to buy a theater in Branson at this time. Just look at the numerous theaters which have been for sale for many years and have had no response. Best guess is someone would just buy the property to level the building and use it for something else.

Moon River Mega Church?
Another 10 year eyesore waiting to become an aquarium?
An indoor sports complex?
All this rain we are having recently is Andy's tears!

1.5m is crazy cheap. Can't buy 2 nice condos at the landing for that.
I hope it remains in the entertainment industry in the hands of someone with some serious creativity and the ability to survive the virus.
I'm curious how that property compares in price with other high end Branson theatres.

^^^THIS^^^
With hopes that that "someone" has due respect for who built it, and honors his memory!

Do you think Rick Thomas or the Texas Tenors will purchase since they are the main shows there?

No. They need money, cash, to purchase it at auction. There are numerous other theaters in town which are much less expensive and even those don’t have any buyers. The theater market in Branson has bottomed out, and just the operating cost of a theater the size of Moon River is prohibitive. Also gone are the days when an eccentric millionaire would come to town and buy a theater as a hobby. Such as The Mansion.

I wish this story would grow legs and get spread all over the big money circles. Throw in a little history and it would get pretty interesting very fast to those not familiar with the Branson story, and there are many. Remember, 1.5M is chump change to the big money guys.

Big money guys have big money because they don’t waste it. It would truly have to be someone who wanted to flush that kind of money down the toilet just to maintain the building. It could never be profitable again as a theater. Nonetheless, very sad.
