Branson Country USA - October 21, 2016

This week we welcome Baldknobbers alumni: Tonya Allen, The Norris Twins, and Gene Dove!

All three of our guests this week share a great history of performing with Branson's founding show, The
Baldknobbers!

Tonya Allen became a Baldknobber at a very early age. In fact, she didn't have much choice as her Mom, Dad and sisters were involved in the show. She sang with the group for several years before going on to perform with Mel Tillis.

When people see the Norris Twins entertain for the first time, their reactions are often the same - Melinda "Lindy" and Rebecca "Becky" Norris are such polished performers they must have been born onstage! And that's not far from the truth.

Their first "venue" was church. As youngsters, the twins had a special influence with the minister who was also their father and they used it often to create occasions for singing Sunday morning duets. Soon after, Melinda and Rebecca became the youngest entertainers in Branson, Missouri, when they joined the cast of the Baldknobbers. Every evening for seven years they sang and danced onstage, becoming two of Branson's most sought-after personalities. In 1991, television producers happened to see them in the Baldknobbers show, and before long the twins were on the road to Nashville to become cast members of Hee Haw.

Being part of Hee Haw provided them with a whirlwind of entertainment experiences. For several years, The Norris Twins traveled with their band to casinos, fairs, clubs and theaters across the United States and abroad. Entertaining for USO shows in South Korea was an especially memorable experience for them. Successes were coming with increasing intensity when the girls decided to take a break to start their families. Right now, command performances for weddings and other events remind them of their enduring love for the arts. Right now their most important fans are three awesome little boys that keep both girls very busy.

Gene Dove performed with the Baldknobbers for a little over 30 years. Starting in 1978, Gene began playing bass guitar for Branson's founding show. Through the years he transitioned from playing bass, to serving as a vocalist and emcee for the show. There isn't anyone who can sing a country song better than Gene Dove. He was recently awarded the "Lifetime Achievement" award at the 2016 Branson Terry Awards!

Join us this Friday night to hear some of Branson's finest legends in the rich history of our Ozark's songbook.
