Eureka Springs Mardi Gras Celebrations

From the Springfield Newsleader:

The Eureka Gras Night Parade kicks off at 6 p.m. on Jan. 30, downtown on Spring and Main streets. All the floats will be decorated with lights.

Following the parade is the Black Light Ball at 8 p.m. on Jan. 30 at Grotto Wood Fired Grill & Wine Cave. Tickets are $25. This is a more casual ball held under black lights.

At 6 p.m. on Feb. 4 is Jokers Masquerade Ball at Inn of Ozark Convention Center. This is the largest ball. Tickets are $25. This is a masquerade ball and the theme is Hooray for Hollywood, so come dressed as a movie star or honor Hollywood in another way. There’s a costume contest with cash prizes.

The Coronation Ball, which is already sold out, is at 6 p.m. on Feb. 5.

Eureka Mardi Gras Day Parade, downtown on Spring and Main streets, begins at 2 p.m. on Feb. 6. Costumes are encouraged. Come prepared to catch beads. The parade lasts 60 to 90 minutes.

Mayor’s Ball at the Basin Park Hotel is at 7 p.m. on Feb 6. Tickets $35 in advance; $40 at the door. Show up ready for the red carpet and walk the runway for the "Mask Walk Off" — awards given for three categories: Sexiest, Funniest and Avant Garde. Red carpet photo op; cocktails and hor d’oeuvres.

Starting at 11:30 a.m. on Feb. 7 is a champagne jazz brunch at the Crescent Hotel. Bring your decorated umbrellas for the second line walk with umbrellas after the brunch. Adults: $24.95; ages 5-12: $9.95; kids 4 and younger eat free. Reservations are required. Call 479-253-9652 or email crescentdiningreservations@gmail.com

The St. Liz Cajun King Cake Ball at St. Elizabeth Parish Hall is the final event, which is 5-10:30 p.m. on Feb. 9. Oyster Bar opens at 5 p.m. The Cajun Dinner, including king cake for dessert, is at 6-8 p.m. Costumes are encouraged. This is a formal affair. Cost: $80 per couple; $40 for single. The dinner menu includes boudin balls, crawfish corn bisque, baked snapper with lump crab and shrimp in a butter/cream sauce paired with green bean bundles. Capacity is limited to 128 and sells out, so get tickets early. Reservations required. Call 479-253-8864 or 479-253-4503.

Laissez Le Bon Temps Roulet
Sounds like a fun party. Bet the sights are near as interesting as in N'awlins itself!
