Rising fuel costs

are shutting down this nation. We've all read about our own experiences at the pump, the plight of truckers was expressed by Cheesecake and several others on this board. Now, this week, three airlines have shut down.

No fuel = no economy, few shipments, higher prices for EVERYTHING and all, in my opinion, due to greed.

Regulating the cap on profits/bonuses for the oil companies...would that help...or would they simply start shipping their goods to other countries?

Something's got to be done, and fast. Any thoughts on this?

Cut the crap in DC

Open the oil reserves, and drop gas prices.........

THERE IS OIL, they have a padlock on it, in case something happens and we are cut off by OPEC................Oil for a long time in reserve.

Yup, things are coming to a halt.....
The price of feed for cows has gotten so high, we have raised our cargo insurance for our trucking..........if we have an accident and/or someone steals a load, we wouldnt be able to cover the cost of replacement....who wooda thunk...FEED and GRAIN is worth more than gold itself.

So if Feed and Grain costs that much...........how will the farmer/rancher be able to keep up feeding his cattle? Possibly by Gov't subsidy, ..... but usually the Gov't limits the amount of cows you can raise, to keep the prices up..........we don't EVER want a GLUT on the market....thus, some farmers have bare fields.........they are paid NOT TO GROW ANYTHING...and we are importing WHEAT.
Watch the price of meat and bread.
Vicious circle?

And, I read an article today (somewhere) where GROCERY STORES are gouging their customers, by blaming cost of jelly on truckers. A buck a jar more to pay the trucker........bwhahahaa.............probably 5000 jars of jelly on a truck with 5000 jars of other stuff..........so the trucker got 5000 dollars ................ now we are dumbells.

I'll take a dollar a pound more on the load...we haul 80,000 pounds.

I'm being ridiculous I guess....then again, am I?

I wonder if China would sell us some fuel?

But somebody would miss out on something free,,,
It will be the ruin of this nation...
We don't need any terrorist or nation to do it...
We are doing it for our selves....

It's frustrating that the government has regulated gas to the point that it's NOT regulated by supply and demand. The freaking regulations keep us from being able to build refineries even if we had all the oil in Alaska.

I went to buy toilet paper today -it's gone up a dollar/package -I made the comment to my dh that it's freaking rediculious -he reminded me, it's not just the fuel for the truck to get it here, but the heat in the building where it was manufactured, the lights there.... ALL of it's being affected - and it's affecting us whether we want it to or not.

You can thank the dems for that, They want the earth safe, and us dependant on foreign oil,,,,,,,,,,,
I think we can drill and still keep the earth safe...
Most of the oil disasters we have had came from the ships, wrecking...
Not from drilling.
I can't believe no one saw this coming.....

You are correct. We are doing it to ourselves BECAUSE of terrorists. Yes 9/11 was a tragic event. They got exactly what they wanted. At that time oil was $27 per barrel. It's now over well over $100. It takes OIL to execute a war. Those tanks, jets, bombers, ships, and supply/support vehicles can't run without it. Then, you add up the economic costs of the war. Over $1.2 trillion now. It's time to end this thing now. For the terrorists, it's "mission accomplished".

Record prices for a bushel of corn these days, driven by production of ethanol. I say

GROW MORE CORN!

Why should the oilmen make all the profits?

The whole thing just frustrates me!! We can put a man on the moon, make clothes AND cloth grocery bags out of plastic bottles, make a laptop as thin as a sheet of paper and all other kinds of mind blowing things and we cant think of anything else to run cars and trucks on!

Check out the hydrogen powered car. The air car. Yep, runs on compressed air. ONE tank of gas will get you from California to New York.

We've thought of them. Prototypes are in place, but the oil industry is just way too powerful.

I am not trying to start something, but, I can remember, a few years back, some folks would fight you at the drop of a hat if you criticised George W. ...

Times and opinions have sure changed.

This is the biggest mess we have been in since I came into the world.

Mostly because of George W'S personal grudge for Sadaam.....

He got his man, look what it has cost the USA...
