Same here in KC. You will see a really beautiful tree but then everything around it will be just a yucky brown.

I was in Branson yesterday, and this morning - with my sun glasses on, the trees on the mountainsides were colorful, take the glasses off - and what I saw was various shades of yellow/browns. There were some real burst of color -lots of the maple trees are still bright orange, bright reds and yellows...but the mountain sides are covered with evergreens, oaks, and sycamore trees that sure don't stay colorful for long.

BUT.........

I'm in St Louis now, and the trees from Branson to STL are the same - no more color here, than there.........

I suppose the cold weather zapped the color right out of the leaves?!

The sun peeked out from the clouds and fog here in STL today, and I'm pretty sure that the trees here are more colorful than in Branson.

There are some REALLY colorful maple trees in yards and such in both areas, but to just look at the hills and the color on them, STL has a prettier palette.

We are still enjoying color here and there. As we came down 165 hill south of Titanic and get to the curve at the bottom, the hillside is still pretty. There are other areas that are still pretty to us.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I believe.....

Thank you, preacherman, for the lovely pictures! Looks like a lot of color to me!

Still beautiful here in SE Iowa! We did have a hard frost last night, so I'm sure the leaves are "at their peak", or beyond, for this year....

When we were in Branson last week, there was a tree right at the corner of the Imax Complex that was just beautiful.

All the other trees around were losing their color and leaves but this one tree was the most beautiful orange, yellow and red tones I have ever seen. It was just striking.

Don't know if they coloring is still in the leaves but, would be worth a drive by there just to see this beautiful piece of nature.

You're welcome. Of course, it was more colorful "in person" than with my camera.

Group of friends and I are going out today to see some fall color.
Using the route map on the B. Chamber website , which we hope
will provide the best views. I'll post later to LYK how it goes.

How it went

Well any drive thru the ozark is lovely. But, for fall color, not so much.
Many shades of green, an occassional yellow, gold, or orange, but for
the most part, no real fall color. Drove back roads thru branson,
blue eye, lampe, k. city, etc. nice, even without fall color.

I have a great view of the colors from the windows at work. I especially enjoy fall, because of the great view of the colorful palate across Springfield from the windows at work.

I noticed this w/end that while there is some color, and some green still on the trees, even after the frost that we've had, that monochromatic brown is the prominent color. An occasional bright red/orange or yellow tree can be found, but they are not the dominating feature of the fall.

If you want to enhance your viewing experience, slip on a pair of what I would call "brownish" lens sunglasses. The colors really are amazing.

NotJLB, this is SO true!!! We were in Arkansas a few weeks ago before the color had changed much. Putting on the glasses made it look as if it was in full color. It's odd but true.

Today is the first unwindy day, the low having passed.
For some reason, the amber lens sunglasses make everything look brighter.

Bet most would not have thought it would go this late.
This is the first year ever that I can remember not turning on the furnace before mid November. Today, while I was at work, dh decided to start a fire. We have not used any heat except a small space heater all fall. Not a normal year.

I mentioned on the way to Branson yesterday, that the hills seemed to have more color now than a month ago, because many of the trees are bare, allowing some color to show - a bit of orange and red peeking through with some evergreen's showing off, it was pretty. The wind, cold and rain we've had may have changed things significantly since yesterday?
