I keep hearing about Geocaching and thought I would ask if anyone has done this in the Branson area.

What is geocaching?

Geocaching is a real-world, outdoor treasure hunting game using GPS-enabled devices. Participants navigate to a specific set of GPS coordinates and then attempt to find the geocache (container) hidden at that location.

I have done geocaching in Branson one time. It can be a lot of fun if you have the right equipment. A car GPS isn't quite capable of getting you to a specific geocache. You need one for hiking. With a clue, we were able to find one geocache over at Stockstill Park. There are over 282 listed for the Branson area. Get the right equipment, find an interesting search, and go for it!

Here's a lengthy previous thread about geocaching in Branson:

There are more threads on the board, too.

Just on this forum, I know OzarkMan and Mr/Mrs Preacherman are really into geocaching.
Why, sometimes I've believed as many as
six impossible things, before breakfast.

Mr. And Mrs. Preacherman helped me with a surprise last year.
They hid a 'clue' for my Son. He wanted his wife to find it, using the coordinates that Mr. & Mrs. P provided.
And they were able to find that paper clue with their cell phone GPS.

I'm a cacher

A few weeks ago I met up (here in Branson) with a "boot-heel" friend and she and I found 36 caches in Branson in two days. (I had already found a lot of them already. It was fun to watch her search)

Husband and I snagged two yesterday and have four more on the agenda before we leave the area on Sunday.

It is a neat way to combine hiking with another activity. Some caches are not out in nature but can be found along busy streets in crowded shopping areas.

Hope you enjoy
