Carveing a Stick of Bologna For Turkey Day....

For part of the thanksgiving meal, I just had a thought, barbeque a stick of bologna,[The the entire stick before they slice it], put it on the thanksgiving table, see how long it would last.
Only us poor folks would know how to carve it.

I gotta say something here, that will not resonate with anyone younger than 60 who doesnt live down here in the Zarks, probably...but my husband would rather have a RING OF BOLOGNA FRIED than turkey ..........anyday...even on Thanksgiving.

I believe to have Fried Ring Bologna was a sign that you were coming up in the world, down here in poor Dent County.
I, however, have seen the Truckinfarmer, frying a slice of Oscar Meyer....while humming, "I Wish I Was An Oscar Meyer Weiner"............

I've always told him he was a ''weiner''...........(I don't think that is a term often used down here, as he knits his brow and scowls at me).

Cheesecake - we have fried bologna around here on occasion - it's something that once you taste it, you actually crave it.

My kids grew up thinking fried bologna was quite a treat - it WAS a treat, it meant that I didn't have to 'cook'.

.............shoot, we both grew up on bologna, fried or otherwise!
At our house, Sunday Night Dinner was:
Fried Bologna
Fried Taters
Pork 'n Beans or Ranch Style Beans
FRESH Light Bread
Sliced 'Maters!

UMMMM UMMMM GOOD!

In the Summer when we were at my Aunt & Uncle's Boat House at the lake,
she had a hugh cast iron skillet and made this same Sunday Night Dinner.
It tasted so good fried in that cast iron skillet!
just thinkin' 'bout it ......makes me want to fire up the grill & make that
same dinner tonight! We-eelll, not really, but you cook it & I'll eat it.
I'm not 'supposed' to have bologna anymore, but sometimes I get
Turkey bologna. At least I feel like I'm going by Doctor's orders, whether
I am or not! He'd probably say NOT!!
but..............we both LUV bologna!

Bologna....anyway you slice it is GREAT!!

We smoke meat on a regular basis. Chickens, Turkey, Ribs, and ALWAYS there's a 5 lb chub of Bologna in with what ever we're smoking.

We love Bologna, Grilled, BBQ'd, Fried, Plain, Hot, Cold, Ground (with onions and pickles), Cut in chunks and sauteed with smoked sausages, onions, green peppers.

LOVE IT.

As many have said, it was a staple in our house growing up!!!

Fried bologna was a treat when I was growing up. My mom would fix it for us sometimes when my dad was working evenings. Yum!
