Table Rock Dam Gates Open up to 20 k CFS expected

Because of the large amount of rain received over the past week, the amount of water coming into Lake Taneycomo as of 1720 on this date is in excess of 16,000 CFS and is expected to rise to 20,000 CFS as soon as Table Rock Lake gets over 920 elevation. This means that very swift water will be encountered particularly in the upper 1/3 of Lake Taneycomo and to say the least, very minimal, if any, safe wade fishing below the dam. Please be careful.

Got that 920 as of 1900.

Just had a quick inch of rain right through town. We will see if it brings the lake up at all.

Total Release = Turbine Release + Flood Gate Release

The table used is meaningless in terms of supporting your conclusion. You are quoting "Turbine Release" which does not include water discharged through the Flood Gates. They opened the Gates at about 1600 yesterday. When I got the information I posted at about 1715 yesterday they were actually discharging over 16,000 cfs which is consistent with adding additional Flood Gate discharge to the Turbine Releases. Using your figures, if one relies on the Turbine Release figures alone, the discharge actually goes down a couple of feet the hour after they opened the gates.

although the water will be up, there should be some very good fishing for the next day or so. if you are able to, use large jerkbaits like the Rogue or a shad imitation. There may be some walleye up there, following the shad coming in from TRL.

HOW BOUT SOME PICTURES OF THE RELEASE?
Phil Lilley has a pic of the 5 gates open on his facebook page.
Also, stories of how great the fishing is when the gates are open on Lilleys' Landing facebook page.
Reports, and pics on Outdooranglers.com as well.

Here's a couple of photos from Thursday afternoon. The photo of the guy fishing was taken near the hatchery.

As a point of reference wasn't the point from which you took the picture under several feet of water in 2011?

Big trout as well. Don't know if only 5 gates is enough to blow them out of their holes right below the dam though.
Fishing usually gets good in the entire upper Taneycomo area when the gates open up though. The water gets a little warmer, not particularly good for trout, but lots of oxygen added to the lake. Which is good for all the fish, and gets them hungry, and aggressive! Plus they will be gorging on the shad that come through the gates. Jig color, white, white, white!
Wish I could be there to Josey. Will be in a couple weeks, but promised the wife a no boat/no fishing few days in Branson. Not even staying at Lilleys, but up on the strip instead. Wouldn't ya know.

that will land you a hefty fine from conservation. NO soft plastics or live bait allowed above fall creek.

I can't comment on that. We weren't living here in 2011.

You might be able to dig up some pics posted during the 2011 flood. The pavilion below the hatchery had water about half way up to the roof!
Don't want to post them now and get somebody confused, thinking the water is that high again.

The gates are said to be staying open the rest of the week, and maybe through the weekend. Great fishing too!

Word is they are keeping the gates open at least through the week, may be into the weekend.

We are seeing shad in the lake all the way down to the Branson Landing and trout spitting up shad that far down. This is UNPRECEDENTED in the years I've been here - for this many shad to enter the lake from the spill gates.

Rick Lisek said he was one of the only boats up below the dam this morning and they had over 80 trout caught before 10:30 am on shad flies.

I caught some real pigs last evening. Some of the biggest were just up and down from the Fall Creek line. All on white 1/8th oz jigs.
