Wonders of Wildlife

When is that going to reopen? I looked at the website and it said it was still closed due to reconstruction. I thought it was nice enough as it was. Hasn't it been closed over a year now? I was hoping we could go in it this trip we are taking next week.

I just an article about the WOW last week. They do not know when it will reopen, all the critters are gone to other exhibits.
The city of Springfield is upset because WOW is still collecting income on tourist taxes from the city and they are not generating any of that income.
I think I read the article on KSPR.com

I think the Springfield newspaper ran the same article. My understanding is the construction/remodeling is at a standstill.

City wondering about museum
Museum closed for renovations since 2007 still collects tax money.
Kathleen O'Dell kodell@news-leader June 27, 2009

The Wonders of Wildlife museum on the Bass Pro Shops campus attracted its share of wonder after it opened in November 2001.

When the excitement and revenue flagged, the conservation-themed museum closed in December 2007 for a major renovation that was to be finished this summer.

But the museum remains closed today. The animals have been transferred out, the interior stripped and the work is moving slowly. Some, including city officials, wonder what's going on.

Peggy Smith added, "The magnitude of what we're doing is so extensive that it just takes awhile to get all those design plans to development."

The architects are expected to give an update on the plan at the board's regular November meeting, she said.

"We would like to (finish) the summer of next year but realize that's going to be a very aggressive date to meet," Peggy Smith said. "We're allowing ourselves a little bit of flex there."

The new plan includes building a connector bridge between Bass Pro and WOW.

Looking ahead
Smith and Keck say they regret the museum is missing all the money-conscious tourists this year choosing the Ozarks for their vacations. But they're confident the museum will reopen to larger and continuous crowds.

"These are very substantial changes to the facility," Smith said.

"The way the museum looked before we closed -- which was great and wonderful -- is changing very dramatically and the level of those exhibits is just going to be fantastic."
